A hard film to watch -----------

It isn't quite yet ready for distribution, but the documentary was shown here last night. It's about the raids at the meat packing plants that took place in December 2006; one of those plants is in Greeley, Colorado, and the producers focused their lenses here. If you live in one of the states/communities where the other simultaneous raids took place you will find this film to be of great interest when it is distributed; that's why I posted this in GD instead of the Colorado forum.

On a personal note, I watched this raid happen. I was working only two streets west of the plant, and we stood in the parking lot and watched and wondered, waving at the unmarked helicopters that came close and took our pictures; we weren't going to be intimidated from watching the event unfold. We took turns going inside to get the live streams from the Denver television stations. It was a sickening thing to watch, and when I got home that night I cried and wondered what we had become. Last night it took about 30 seconds into the film and the tears started again. And I wasn't the only one.

Anyway, the newspaper covered the showing and a portion of the discussion that followed. I've included the link if you want to read the story; the comments posted to the article might go a long way toward explaining why the producers chose this town for their film. God help us.

If anybody had bothered to enforce that law, we would not have had the shameful raid at the Postville, Iowa, Agriprocessors plant, ripping apart families and batching people through in groups and deporting them en masse, with almost no regard for dependent children and spouses.

It was a day of shame for Iowa, and so unnecessary.
