5. I am conflicted about that.

I won't go there myself, but I suppose we need to know what they are thinking (if you could call it that). On the other hand, knowing what they are thinking depresses me. It's hard to imagine how people can be so hateful, and it makes me sad to know that some are.

They are, I think, a bona fide hate group. I hope the Southern Poverty Law Center, which monitors hate groups like Aryan Nation, keeps an eye on that bunch. While most of them are probably fat, zitty, unemployed losers posting with one hand from their soiled-underwear-festooned lairs in their parents' basements, some of them are likely to be dangerously unstable, and all they need is validation from the likes of Glenn Beck and reinforcement from each other to go out and do something bad. So they do need to be watched.

But still, it's really hard to read that garbage and maintain any faith in humanity.

Sometimes I need to read what these people are saying, to help renew my commitment to fighting the good fight against them. When you bury your head in the sand, it's too easy to start giving them credit for being human, because you just can't believe people could be so horrible. These jolts of Freeper reality are stark, necessary reminders of why we can't be complacent about the current Democratic majority in the WH and Congress.

I never go to their site. I think it's silly to pay much attention to them. I almost always Unrecommend any thread that mentions Freepers, Free Republic, or Jim Rob, because I don't want that garbage site to get any coverage on the Greatest Page.

Yes, I think it is important.

I believe many Democrats/Progressives are dismissive of the "crazy" right wing conservatives, but they are a powerful force. This is how we end up with a Sarah Palin or Joe the Plumber on our national stage.

I have many republicans in my family and I know how inherently racist they are and filled with hate and fear. When I tell fellow friends who are Democrats about my family's ideologies, they don't believe it. I think we need to face the ugliness and take it on.

I'm glad Free Republic's hatred and racism came to the surface with the pic of Malia. That was picked up in the mainstream media. I think shining light into the darkness is important.

Sometimes I think Democrats are in denial over just how fucked up the conservative/christian view can be. And then we can't believe it when a doctor is murdered or a numbskull is nominated for vice-president or a young gay man is dragged to his death behind a truck.

These disgusting specimens aren't just visible on a website they're out in the world with us normal people, and unless someone has been living in a bubble you run into them all the time. Normal people don't need to be aware of that website to know that disgusting turds like that are around and there's plenty of them.

I don't need to see Freeper dreck dragged over here all the time because on any subject I already know what ugly shit they'll be saying just like I'll know what a racist or homophobe or mysiginist, etc. will be saying, and frankly, I don't want to be subjected to the ugly shit they say... i have to deal with quite enough of that in real life, thank you very much.
