Hi! Some will recall the position paper my husband wrote on torture
In case you missed it - Framing the Torture by Mister Solly Mack

He's now working on a position paper about extremist groups within the military.

He is gathering more resources and turning them into teaching material because he has recently been assigned to create classes for soldiers - to make them aware and better informed. He's calling it "Spot the Hate. Stop the Hate". (title may change)

He's currently using resources from the ADL and the Southern Poverty Law Center. (both excellent resources for a classroom setting)

I'm asking for any suggestions for other resources (books, groups, information, games, test for biases, etc) - of the non-smart-ass variety - that he should include as well.

Some of his current class didn't know the name Taguba - just to give you some idea of the level he is building from... (Yes. We both know how tragic that is)

Thank you in advance!!

Solly

He was talking about that guy today in class. (while getting all heated about the lack of accountability - that classes by themselves aren't enough)

I would like to say we DUers and the larger world owe you and Mr Solly Mack and every other citizen like you deep appreciation for never letting the moral issue of torture fade from our consciousness and dialogue here. THANK YOU and thank Mr Mack for us, for this.

(self-editing-- wrong links offered up for wrong topic, but I'll be back, lol.)

He's been connecting the dots (for others) between the rise of extremists in the military and the Bush years - and not just because of 2 wars.

Also, he's showing how closely related certain hate groups are to the forced birthers/anti-women groups.

12. I'll put together a list of suggestions and email them to him.
That way he can check and re-check as needed. I sent him a bunch of stuff and he already had some material - but then he felt he might be missing something and this is important to him. (to do a good job)

I really do appreciate the suggestions!!

The Air Force Academy has long been a hotbed of the religious right.

Across the United States, religious activists are organizing to establish an American theocracy. A frightening look inside the growing right-wing movement.

I have concentrated on religious extremists because I don't think people realize how connected our military is to them. These people have some of the same goals as others but with a religious twist. Theses are just a few links to the nutballs.
I think they are way scary because of their influence as military veterans.
