that said, I hope that they don't go into a deathpalooza like they have done in the recent past. At that point it enters the ground of distraction.

RIP Walter, you did a good job for us, and I hope your newsies realize that you do NOT wish to become the center of the sto... err... distraction.

(Oh and for the record in my view he did much more for this country than a few other recent deaths)

Walter

:patriot:

It takes guts to jump with the 101st to get the story.

1. I suspect his family services will be classy but largely private.

2. I hope so.
I truly hope so. And the other reason, family needs time to say their good byes in private. There are a few exceptions to that rule, and he was at the center of a few of those, JFK murder, Bobby, and Doctor King... but for the most part, they should be private

3. LBJ - "If I've lost Cronkite, then I've lost the war"
No shit.

He was the man every evening.
It's hard to believe that the network evening news broadcasts used to be 15 minutes long.
Changing the format to 30 minutes was at the time MAJOR in this country.

At least back then, EVERYONE read the newspapers, even the kids like me.

4. LBJ said
"If I've lost Cronkite, I've lost Middle America."

And someone, no one near LBJ, said, "He didn't lose Middle America - he lost America."

The entertainment shows were fifteen minutes, too - The Eddie Fisher Show is one I remember.

When the news shows went to half an hour, no one could believe they'd have anything to report that would take up thirty whole minutes.

Man, that was a simpler time, wasn't it?
