The difference between conservatives and liberals is...
Any good one-liners? I'll start with one that I thought of a while back:

Conservatives and liberals agree that the world isn't fair. The difference is that conservatives like it that way.

11. conservatives (read extreme rightwing ideologues) are completely unable to deal with
cognitive dissonance, ignoring anything that conflicts with their worldview

IOW they can't deal very well with reality, thus creating their own, as one prominent, powerful maniac admitted to Ron Suskind (at least the part about creating their own reality)

12. the most obvious example:
big government/big deficits are anathema to a free society, but how did they deal with the largest expansion of government/debt in history under GWB? the logical contortions/rationalizations were interesting to watch

19. One that (IMO) is an honest assessment...
In the balance between equality and freedom, liberals are willing to sacrifice a little personal freedom to gain a more equal society for all, and conservatives are willing to accept certain inequalities in order to obtain freedom.

This is a paraphrase of some conservative dude who was a guest on the Daily Show once...he said this like it was some denigration of liberals and a compliment to conservatives, but I thought it was fairer and more accurate than he realized.

20. Hi and welcome to DU.
Edited on Sat Jul-18-09 01:51 AM by Quantess
I'm sorry, but who wants us to sacrifice personal freedoms? You mean conservatives, don't you?

And, "Conservatives are willing to accept certain inequalities in order to obtain freedom." Which "freedoms" are conservatives aspiring to obtain, that would require accepting "inequalities"?

Please elaborate.
