The rental agent that handled mine and my roommates lease was listening to Rush Limbaugh... |
|
I had already handed in our 1800 dollar security deposit and had finished signing all the papers when I heard the faint sound of Rush coming from under the agents desk.
I asked the agent if he was listening to Rush Limbaugh and he said yes. A shutter ran down my spine as I realized that a Ditto Head was in control of thousands of dollars that I would be handing over to him.
Unfortunately, there is no turning back now. I'm in for almost 1200 dollars if I break the lease.
 I mean what's the worst that could happen, right?...right?

1. I wouldn't be panicked. If this person seems to give you grief over your political views |
|
He/she can have their license pulled. Just make sure you keep great notes.

19. I would add to "keep great notes..." |
|
Edited on Sat Jul-18-09 10:09 AM by Hepburn
...that if something does happen, not only make notes, but send the notes via fax to someone who is trusted and with credibility ~~ and keep the transmission print-out. That way the claim can never be made that it was recently manufactured.
Also: Put ALL communcation to the agent IN WRITING...and, again, deliver the message via fax and keep the transmission print-out.
I would not trust anyone who listens to Limpbigot as far as I could throw him/her.
Now...maybe you will need the above and maybe you will not. But here is my philosophy: Better to have the proof and not need it than to need the proof and not have it.

. . . the agent is trusting a person with opposing political views with thousands of dollars of his property. Sounds like there is some risk on his side, also. *shrug* That's just the way it goes.

is going to fuck something up.
I'm not worried about the fact that we have opposing political views. That's childish.

5. Your assumptions may be childish |
|
Just because he was listening to you-know-who doesn't make him a "dittohead." Your assumption that he has "a high likelihood of being a moron" could be completely wrong.

6. If he listens to Rush Limbaugh and does not cringe in horror, he is probably a Ditto Head. |
|
If he is uneducated enough to enjoy listening to Rush Limbaugh, that leaves me a bit unsettled when he is handling thousands of dollars of my money.

How do you know that he doesn't listen just for the entertainment value, or to get his blood boiling, or to reinforce his own opinions??? You don't. You are indulging in ridiculous stereotyping, which you would decry and condemn in a lot of other people.
What if that agent did some stereotyping? "Oh, this is a college student. He is going to vandalize my property, leave it a mess, steal stuff. I shouldn't rent to this guy."

10. Do you know anyone who listens to Rush for entertainment who isn't a Ditto Head? |
|
Yes I could understand hearing clips on the internet of particular moments of stupid. But if someone spends portions of their day listening to them, they probably aren't doing it out of mockery.

By the way your post count doesn't go up when you keep posting on the same thread.

4. And You're Going To Seeing Him How??? |
|
So you met a dittohead...I've met many and am friends with several. I wouldn't trust them with my business or making any important decisions in my life, but I sure don't condemn them for having a legit job. So the bastard listens to Excrement In Broadcasting...it's not like you're going to inviting him to dinner or have to deal with him other than making sure your rent check gets there on time.
I assume its a year lease...hopefully a very nice place. In a year, if he's still there and you're so upset, you're free to move. In the meantime, you signed a contract, do something many rushpublicans can't do...honor it.

Don't think AOW can handle it. No difference of opinion allowed in his life. Nope. Not ever.

9. lul I am currently living in a house full of christian conservatives... |
|
But that doesn't mean I trust any of them with my finances.
I think you think that I am uncomfortable because I had to be around a Ditto Head. Which is totally untrue. I spend the majority of my day being around them.
But that doesn't mean I trust them with anything important.

what reason does the rental agent have to trust you with anything important?? That's what contracts are for--so that strangers with different viewpoints on a multitude of issues can do business in such a way that it provides a satisfactory outcome for both of them.
Duh.

did this agent do his job? That's all that matters.
President Obama's Inauguration address was focused on getting this country together again. He's bright enough to see how polarized America has become. If progressives deal only with certified progressives, and wingnuts only deal with those they've checked on to verify wingnut credentials, we'll never achieve the President's goal of a united America.

14. My advice: Make a damage checklist right away. |
|
Edited on Sat Jul-18-09 08:46 AM by rucky
Walk through the place and record every thing that's even slightly damaged or not working properly. Sign it, and deliver him a copy by certified mail - whether he's asked for one or not.
Or you could get screwed out of your deposit when you move out.
I'm saying this as a landlord - I have all my tenants do this for their own protection (and so I can keep track).
