DeMint: If We Stop Health Reform, It Will 'Break' Obama

Health reform foes plan Obama's 'Waterloo'

Conservative leaders will push delay any vote on health care reform until after the August recess to capitalize on what they say is a growing tide of opposition to reform measures, they said on a conference call with "tea party" participants today.

"I can almost guarantee you this thing won't pass before August, and if we can hold it back until we go home for a month's break in August," members of Congress will hear from "outraged" constituents, South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint said on the call, which was organized by the group Conservatives for Patients Rights.

"Senators and Congressmen will come back in September afraid to vote against the American people," DeMint predicted, adding that "this health care issue Is D-Day for freedom in America."

"If we’re able to stop Obama on this it will be his Waterloo. It will break him," he said.

1. There is some truth to that.
Edited on Sat Jul-18-09 08:51 AM by Eric J in MN
Bill Clinton get re-elected after health care reform failed, but it would be more difficult for Obama with premiums much bigger now then in the early 1990s (and consequently more people who want change in the health care system.)

5. People used the same argument over the twins getting their new stadium...
I recall the media and the pundits whining "Why didn't we do it sooner when it was less expensive?"

Well, the overpaid brats got what they wanted. You're welcome, since we taxpayers paid the bill... while being told "pull yourselves up by your own bootstraps"...

2. That's how Pukes roll. It's all a game - they don't give a shit about any of us.
Edited on Sat Jul-18-09 09:00 AM by Avalux
Their goal - from the day Obama stepped into office until the day he leaves - is to break him. Doesn't matter how it's done and it doesn't matter if the country and all of us suffer for it.

Obama needs to take what DeMented has said and use it in the court of public opinion. He still has the majority on his side.

20. Unfortunately, many "Dems" don't give a shit about us either.
In a letter to the House speaker, Nancy Pelosi, Mr. Polis and 20 other freshman Democrats said they were “extremely concerned that the proposed method of paying for health care reform will negatively impact small businesses, the backbone of the American economy.”
---
The group included three senators, Ben Nelson, Democrat of Nebraska; and Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins, Republicans of Maine, who met with Mr. Obama at the White House this week and urged him not to rush the bill.

“The legislative process right now is going in the wrong direction,” said Senator Joseph I. Lieberman, the Connecticut independent, who also signed the letter. “I think it’s extremely doable to get this done before the end of the year. But just to try to get it passed in the Senate before we leave for the August recess seems just about impossible. It’s just too big a bill.”

7. If we get real health reform through, it will break the GOP!
If it goes through and stays in place for even a couple years, it will become a third-rail program, and the GOP won't be able to take it away. And if it's implemented, the GOP won't be able to take back Congress for decades!

17. If people die or go bankrupt because of the current crappy system, it is OK with them,
as long as they can "break" Obama. They disgust me.

Let DeMint know how disgusting you find his efforts to deny Americans affordable health care in the pursuit of cheap political games.

23. The sick thing here
Is that the Repubs tell us that they don't want to play ball and why...and yet "Bipartisanship" is insisted upon.

Obama should use this admission- push through single payer over the crocodile tears of these whiners and shut them out FOREVER.

We only get so many chances to remove a traitorous party. We missed the first chance by investigating all of them. Let's not miss this one.
