Has anyone seen "The Stoning of Soraya M" film?

If so, what were your thoughts?

Someone from Amnesty International wrote a very critical piece about the movie accusing it of sensationalism.

Edit to add link: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/amnesty-international/sensationalist-film-explo_b_220252.html

I personally thought it was quite a powerful film.

Edit to add: It seemed to me that it was more a condemnation of the patriarchy in general rather than a condemnation of Iran specifically. I would mention that the end of the film made note of the fact that stoning takes place is many countries around the world.

Anyone else get a chance to see it or read the novel on which it was based?

1. I would hope Amnesty would be against stoning?
:wtf:

And I doubt stoning someone needs to be sensationalized, the act itself says it all. I don't care who does it.

2. I was very surprised by their take on the film
I think it comes from being sensitive about the way Iran is portrayed but I feel like that misses the larger issue reflected.

3. It makes me sad that they put "sensitivity" over people

4. Have you seen the film or read the book?
If so, I'd love to read your thoughts on either.

5. I try to avoid reading or watching things that will give me hate
I am sorry, I wish I could read or watch such things without coming away with such hate burning in me that I have trouble shaking it. I cannot detach well enough and doubt I will ever be able to do so. I get into fights all the time here on DU because I become so angry over horrific things done to people for the sake of religion.
