the d in the little du is in red, or filled in with red. I have always wondered about this color choice when it is clear dems have always been represented by the color blue.

1. Either because it's more visible than blue, we're communists, or closeted republicans...

5. Before the "Red States" theme, Democrats were depicted in red at times.
They'd switch off on the tee vee during elections. Now, the GOP has taken over the color red with their "Nancy Reagan red."

I look at it this way--we're eating their lunch.

Labor, socialist, left wing parties use red as their representative colour. Conservatives generally use blue. I believe this was also the case in the USA up until about 2000.

Lefties using blue is very much out of step with most other countries.

21. South America is blue = Liberal.
Hell, one liberal village wouldn't use the new well pumps we gave them till we painted them blue.

9. Since Election 2000...
This red state/blue state stuff started with Bush v. Gore in 2000. That was the first time that the major networks all used the same colors (by coincidence) to represent the political parties in on-screen infographics. The colors stuck during the protracted recount aftermath due to grass-roots adoption of the color schemes in protests, blogs discussions, etc.

Democrats have been blue and Republicans have been red ever since.

10. And why is the Latest speech bubble in blue?
I think this implies that Democrats talk too much. Especially exclamations. And the green of the 'help' icon is a clear indication that only Ralph Nader can save the USA. Perhaps, since there's a question mark there too.

And anyone who sees a pencil as the icon for Post - that means your next post must be sent in, in pencil, by physical mail for approval. Please do not attempt to post electronically - you will break the Internets. Only people who see a mouse there are allowed to do that.

17. OMFG. We've moved from whining about "unrec" to the colors on the DU logo?
I'm also concerned because the "NEW!" above the Googe Search in the right hand corner is also red and the top of the pencil on "Post" in the icons at the top of the page is red and the "Help" icon is green, which might represent the Green Party.
