A Fox News Chicago story about "Super Pot" and how dangerous it is

Yes in recent times a new pot which is call Super pot has been released with in the Illinois neighborhoods according to representative Mark kirk. Someone with a bag of kush well receive up to $1 million in just fee's alone plus a maximum sentence of 25 years if this new bill is to be passed.

How does one cop tell the differences between normal marijuana and this 'SUPER' pot kush? Well if it's sticky, purple and smell's. So pretty much anything that's not from Mexico could land you in serious legal fee's and prison time(Much more then they are now).

I have smoked some new strains for years now, and I have a legal prescription but pot doesn't affect me like it used to. I can smoke and still function and not even looked fucked up. Just from a genetic stand point there have been huge advancements in THC levels. Estimates have it as much as tripling.

if you read about the history of pot (Michael Pollan goes into this in The Botany of Desire, one of four plants he talks about), the effect of Reagan's war on drugs was to move pot into hydroponic grow houses because of the crack down on imports.

Along with Amsterdam, the northern cal to Vancouver B.C. corridor pot growers started hybridizing pot and using growing techniques that helped to increase the concentration of thc in buds. from these hybrids, they crossed the new plants back to earlier generations to stabilize the genetics so that the hybrids created seeds that were true to the plant in hand.

people don't even sell/smoke leaves of pot anymore - they have chunky, sticky bud clumps (which is, again, where thc is concentrated) from female plants.. few to no seeds, very little in the way of stems... one or two puffs from a little pipe have the same effect as a joint. this growing technique is more expensive than growing pot outdoors but it creates pot that requires less of it to have the same effect.

I don't smoke - I quit years and years ago, but I did try some of the newer strains as a remedy for a migraine and I think it's the best thing for all the symptoms of migraines - but it's illegal where I am and I don't want to have to deal with all that. I went through a period in which I had a lot of migraines, tho, and if that happened again, I would definitely say cannabis is the best of any available medicines.

just to add to clarify for anyone who has never smoked, etc. -

even tho this pot is stronger, people do not and cannot o.d. on pot. people will simply want to go to sleep (but not "have to" go to sleep, like some pill for insomnia, etc.) and will wake up with NO hangover. people smoke less pot because it is stronger.

the reason you cannot o.d. on pot is that the brain has receptors for cannabinoids in various structures but not in the medulla oblongata, which is the part of the brain that controls lung and heart functioning. in contrast, various pills can and will kill you if you take enough of them b/c they will suppress breathing or heart functioning to a degree that those functions stop.

the reason that pot is an effective anti-inflammatory is because the body has cannabinoid receptors in the immune system. there is more than one type of cannabinoid (thc is the psychoactive one) and non-psyhoactive ones have greater effect on anxiety and nausea, so pot with very high thc values may not be the best ones for someone who wants relief from vomiting, for instance. this is why medicinal marijuana outfits have different varieties available to address different health issues.

hemp, which is a form of cannabis, has such low thc levels that you will not get high if you try. the stem rather than bud of the plant is the important and selected feature. hemp can be (and was) used for paper, plastics, as a bio-degradable replacement for steel in cars, as oil, as a source of essential fatty acids like flax or fish oil (which has great medicinal use as well).. and this scare-mongering is repulsive because it is against the interests, health and welfare of the American people.

it's not simply a matter of letting someone get high from pot rather than alcohol, it is restricting an entire industry that can ease reliance on petroleum products. it is preventing people from access to affordable and superior medical treatment for a variety of illnesses or side effects of illness.
