Irony is Far From Dead - DoD Division
I heard a story on our local newzradio about that soldier who has been captured by the Taliban and who now shows up on a propaganda tape.

In the story, an Army colonel makes a statement. She speaks about how wrong it is to use this young man for propaganda. And how we don't negotiate with terrorists and how the army is doing everything they can ......

We have sufficient moral high ground to assert this?????

How?

George Bush, our lack of moral authority is YOUR fault, you motherfucker.

1. Link this with the threatening pamphlets we're putting out
"Give him up our we'll be back."

Is the CIA too busy eating donuts, spying on us or practicing their "Enhanced Interrogation Techniques" to go out and find the poor kid?

7. It's the usual propaganda
And I'm going to be upset if the kid dies. The CIA is supposed to be the best info gathering system in the world, bar none. If they don't know where this kid is and can't sneak him out, I'm a monkey's uncle.

3. The American intellectual landscape
doesn't lend itself to the cultivation of irony. And the military mind is particularly barren terrain. Self regard, yes. Self examination, no.

6. I wonder if the colonel was scripted or extemporaneous.
She sounded the way we know a lot of cops sound when in front of a camera.
