Kirk Cameron is a massive tool... |
|
Part 2 of the RRS v. Kirk Cameron debate on evolution http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_JfHnjqWVI&feature=relatedThe opposing side does not seem very well prepared. But even with their less than perfect responses, they make Cameron look like an absolute idiot. How is this guy still going? Even with my limited knowledge of evolutionary biology, I could destroy him intellectually.

1. I feel sorry for Kirk Cameron |
|
He got caught up in this shit when he was a kid and it ruined his career. Now, he's stuck making his money on "Way of the Master" shit and third rate fundie film versions of the "Left Behind" series.

9. From what I gathered he started dating some fundie chick during Growing Pains |
|
I remembered one of those shows all about "whatever happened to..."
The fundie chick introduced him to her special little friends and soon he was only hanging around them.
He let his "faith" (I guess that's what the fundies call it) into the show and tried to be a major decision maker. Shot himself in the foot. None of the other actors mentioned really hearing from him after the show or really caring.

33. So his "religious" beliefs are based solely on self-preservation |
|
and the bribe of everlasting life - a completely selfish, self-centered ideology. And then we wonder why these "it's all about ME" people don't do more for others, and they have to become members of organizations which require them to do something for others in order to cash in on their selfish forever life expectation later.

|
Julie McCullough was her name, I believe, because she had posed for Playboy. He and his family were so morally offended by her, but I remember an interview where he said it was "nothing personal" against her.

"Look! The banana peels and is edible...God must have created it for us!"
No. We have adapted to consume the banana. We can't eat granite, can we? There are a billion different things that we cannot consume. But because we can eat a banana that somehow proves gods design.
Humans can consume chocolate and alcohol. Both are poisonous to dogs. Was God just fucking around with dogs?

I saw a quote on PZ's blog the other week:
"Debating creationists on the topic of evolution is rather like trying to play chess with a pigeon — it knocks the pieces over, craps on the board, and flies back to its flock to claim victory."
Of course, I've had that experience here at DU when confronting some particularly egregious bit of woo

I turned to TBN and there was Kirk, riding a tractor (!!!) and yammering away.
He explained (among other things just too stupid to repeat) that the reason women have miscarriages (no, NOT abortions--MISCARRIAGES) is because the USA does not honor God. At least I think that's what he said. After awhile I was beginning to wonder about a couple of things: (1) Do Kirk and I speak the same language? Language barrier might explain some of the confusion and (2) which of us is insane? Because clearly one of us is waaaayyyy out to lunch. And I have a feeling it ain't me.
Here's what I got out of his ravings: if all you bad, bad people would just stop lying, stealing, aborting babies (as opposed to having miscarriages I guess), committing adultery, blaspheming God, watching porn, and all the other really, really nasty things you do, people would no longer get cancer or STD's, all wars would stop, and....
Sorry to leave you hanging like this, but it was about then that I turned off the TV. I was suddenly feeling a bit unwell. Maybe God is mad at me too? According to Kirk, God is mad at an awful lot of people.
Except for Kirk and everyone who thinks (?) just the way he does.
