Fundies: Ex-Gays will be persecuted if the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes bill becomes law
from the American Family Association's manure factory:

Ex-'gays' would suffer under 'hate crimes' law
Jim Brown - OneNewsNow - 7/20/2009 7:00:00 AM

A spokesman for an ex-"gay" group says Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's successful move to attach hate crimes legislation to the Defense Authorization bill was a "filthy, sleazy tactic."

Former homosexual Greg Quinlan of Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays & Gays (PFOX) says there is no need for the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Prevention Act (S. 909), a bill he believes is based on a phony premise.

"Matthew Shepard was not murdered (in 1998) because of his homosexual orientation,":wtf: the PFOX director points out. "He was murdered because of a drug deal gone bad -- and we need to stop the hyperbole. We need to stop lying to the American people and start telling the truth."

Quinlan believes the hate crimes bill will harm the ex-gay community.

"Every time now that I tell my testimony, talk about that change is possible, quote the science from the American Psychiatric Association, from the Human Genome Association, from professional organizations like N.A.R.T.H., I'm going to be persecuted," he argues. "The way this legislation reads, I could be arrested; I could be sued; I could be charged with a hate crime."

Hate crimes legislation, according to Quinlan, is "totally absurd" because it involves "taking a motive and making it a crime."

4. Only if they tie themselves to fenceposts and beat themselves to death.
Taking a motive into consideration for a crime and its penalties has been part of our common law for the last thousand years or so, at least, but the rightwing fascists do not bother with facts when generating their lies.

5. Why are these rubes given airtime?
I mean, for the past several months--several years--we have been subjected to the most outlandish, most vile, most stupid comments I've ever heard. And yet, it just keeps on coming!

I gave up cable in 1996 and haven't missed it at all...

13. Apparently they've never heard of ex-ex-gays
Then again, Fundies try to shield themselves from anything that promotes tolerance, pluralism or rationality.
