2. or the French model
Parents have friends who live in the US, but travel back to France for medical work. They walk in, sign a form, bing bang boom - work done.

4. I may have to avail myself of that trick, if needed
I feel sorry for the people who don't have that option and I do with BO would announce on the TV that we are going to have a duplicate of the British system within 5 years, starting with the plan that's about to be announced as a transition plan. After all, why should the Brits, French and Canadians get better healthcare than Americans!?

11. hey, if you can do that - go for it.
I only wish we had that sort of option. WHY use this overpriced POS system we have here when something is available that will STILL be cheaper, even factoring airfare?

6. One step to get us closer to the British model?
Authority for licensing doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and all other medical professionals is taken away from the states and vested in the federal government.

Federal preemption of professional licensing.

12. Luxembourg seems to pay more than the rest of Europe
Of course they are richer than the rest of Europe too. Does Lichtenstein even have a system with less than 100,000 people?
