Iowa doctor accused of forced sterilization
A 64-year-old Iowa Falls physician has had formal disciplinary charges filed against him by the Iowa Board of Medicine.

Dr. George H. Pfaltzgraff was charged on July 8 with performing a 2008 tubal ligation on a female patient without proper consent. According to the Iowa Board of Medicine, the woman told Pfaltzgraff that she did not want the procedure. There was no signed form of consent. A hearing on the matter has been scheduled for Sept. 9.

Although the exact details aren’t available in the minutes of the Wisconsin Medical Examining Board, a Dr. George Pfaltzgraff was given an administrative warning in 2002.

Pfaltzgraff remains an active member of the staff at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls, according to the Associated Press.

1. Senator Coburn did the same thing,
as I recall, before he ran for office, when he was a practicing OB-GYN. I'm not sure I have all the facts exactly right, but I remember a story about a young woman asking for birth control, or having had a miscarriage, or something, and Coburn didn't approve of her sex life, and performed a tubal ligation on her.

How do these guys get away with this, I wonder?

3. Ugly misogynist doctors.
Which is most of the ones I meet, sad to say.

4. There's something very strange about this. Before any surgery in New York State,
a hospital employee comes in, reviews the proposed surgery and has you sign a consent form. You get asked again several times by nurses while being transported to the OR to guard against mix-ups. This doctor didn't drag this woman into an alley to do the surgery. Where was the staff?

5. Agreed.
I rec'd this thread, with the understanding that we get all sides of the story before we "Call Ellsworth Hospital and tell them what you think of Dr. Pfaltzgraff."
