Stolen Puppy Returned To Store By Alleged Thief

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― A stolen puppy whose theft was caught on surveillance video has been returned to a West Sacramento pet store after CBS13 aired video showing the thief coaching a little girl to help her steal the dog.

The puppy was stolen from Just Puppies on Sunday. On Monday, CBS13 aired video of the theft. And an hour later, a woman returned the stolen puppy to the store.

Yesterday, Tom Klinger, the owner of Just Puppies, told us he was too busy to catch the alleged crime in the act, but his security cameras clearly show the theft of a Maltese puppy. Four people -- a woman holding a baby and a woman with a young girl -- walked into the store at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday and went straight for the gated area that is off limits to the public.

"It probably took about three minutes," Klinger said. "It was a preplanned thing, I do believe."

The woman with the child spotted the Maltese puppy, and directed the young girl to go into the off-limits area.

"She's opening the gate for the little girl, the little girl goes in," Klinger said while reviewing the security footage. "She's actually causing a diversion… points to the dog she wants."

1. You've got to pick a pocket or two.

2. While I'm all for rescuing dogs from those hell holes ...
... if you can't afford to buy one, you probably can't afford all the "upkeep" - vaccinations, grooming, spay/neuter, obedience, FOOD, shelter etc ....

... and secondly, there are so many adoptable dogs in so many rescues and shelters around the country that probably would gladly work with a family that really and truly wants a dog.

:(

3. So much wrong here...
Sadly, most of those puppies are bought from puppy mills. That is a whole other discussion.

And just how is this parent not being brought up on charges of child endangerment? She coached her daughter to steal. That falls under that statute.

a whole lot of stupid going on.
