Stargazer99 just posted a message in the Health forum that says it all.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=222&topic_id=65111&mesg_id=65123Health-care reform is about being able to access health-care. It is a myth that there are social programs taking care of the problem. The programs are set up to weed people out as much as possible. It is a myth that emergency rooms are in any way a substitute for health-care - they are there to stabilize life threatening conditions and send the ill on their way after they have been stabilized. Go see your family doctor for treatment is meaningless to anyone without insurance.
I am reminded of the debacle of Katrina and the shame most in this country felt. Certainly there are Republicans who were and are content to drown the poor and are stepping up to derail healthcare reform, but to have our own Democrats stalling the progress and not feeling shame for doing so is eye-opening. Is the Katrina model the new American standard?
Is the soul of America really that screwed up? It really looks like it.
