Anyone here gotten an extension on unemployment benefits? |
|
My husband is on unemployment and a couple of weeks ago, he got notice that his benefits were almost out, but he could apply for an extension. He did, right away, but we have no idea how long it might take to find out if he qualifies (we're pretty sure he will).
So, if anyone here has gotten an extension on their bennies, could you let me know how long it took for you to be approved for it? Thanks.

I don't know about elsewhere, but in SC I had to refile all the paperwork and do the interview with an agent at the unemployment office to apply for the extension. I missed only 1 week before it was all taken care of and extended. Hope that helps.

2. My other half is about to get her second extension. |
|
All she had to do is make a phone call for the first one. This time she has to fill out some paperwork and call every week. We live in NC.

8. Have to do it via paperwork and snail mail in Washington (though |
|
claims can be filed online).
Thanks, littlebit.

i do`t know about your state but i received several from the my state ( after i had exhausted all the money from my fund) and the last one was a direct federal extension . depending on the state i would think no more than one or two weeks before you`ll know.

I'm sure he's elegible, but if the wait is long, it's really going to pinch us.

My original benefits ran out last Feb some time. Then I applied for and went on the federal extended, took about two weeks. That ran out about a month and a half ago and I kind of thought I was screwed but I was then put on Phase II benefits... I have tried to find out what this is but the unemployment people do not seem to really know.

It was not something I applied for, I just got a note from unemployment saying I had been approved for it. No explanations, no telling how long it goes for, nothing. I am really glad it is there but I would also like to know more about it... oh well :D

6. I have relatives who have been extended through Xmas. |
|
There's a rumor that a third round is in the offing. I don't know if that's true or not.

13. Here in New York State... |
|
The extensions are state-funded and automatic. I have had 4 extensions now and this will carry me to March, 2010... if I need it. I would much rather be working and hope to do so sometime soon.

one was an automatic emergency extension and the other was a regular extension. i think it took two to three weeks to go through, but my benefits were cut.
but that extension is almost out and i'm hoping like hell that i qualify for the new emergency extension.

He got an answer in about a week. (I'm in Virginia)
He got a notification about two weeks ago that he might be eligible for a second extension due to the state's receipt of federal funds. We filled out the paperwork and had a reply within 10 days but it really didn't explain if he got an extension or not. It just showed the original determination for benefits so we won't know until tomorrow. If he gets a deposit the answer is yes, if not I guess he didn't get it.
Good luck!

It was a strange deal when he got fired. The new owner restructured all of the male managers out of the door. The new owner and the female manager are good drinking buddies now. My husband was the top district manager providing them with an unheard of 40% profit - average was 20 - 25%. Word is the company is getting ready to lose their biggest account which means it will probably have to close it's doors and when that happens about 60 people will lose their jobs because these two women are out drinking instead of taking care of business. It's sad.

I am so sorry for your husband's situation....I feel his pain, and wish you and him nothing but the best! :-)
You probably don't remember me, but I am a fellow NASCAR fan who used to post here more often, but I was laid off in October, so I haven't been around much....
Anyway, I received notice of benefits expiring about a month ago, so I called my state's (CO) unemployment line. It took around five (5!) hours to speak to a "live" rep, but my benefits were expanded by about twenty weeks immediately (thanks to the President!) . The rep told me expanded benefits depend on your states' unemployment rate, but I am just grateful for the extended twenty weeks. I could get more, I was told, afterwards, depending again on my state's rate of unemployment when the benefits run out. I am just happy that Obama was elected to assist me NOW in this difficult, trying time. :(
But on a happier note, Tony Stewart is the points leader :-)!
