5. I had to laugh at the Oregon pane...
"You wouldn't think there'd be a desert in the Pacific NW, would you?"

ROFL... What do they think Central Oregon and Eastern Washington are? Rain forests?

7. Well, most of the country thinks the whole PNW is rainy all year.
Other than locals or visitors, I am sure that surprised most.

18. Honorable mention to the Toutle River Valley below Mount St. Helens
Right smack in the middle of the lush greenery of the Pacific Northwest is a strange, barren (but recovering) landscape, with hills, canyons, and an entire eco-system all younger than many of the people on this forum, myself included. And rising above it all is the massive gouged monolith that created it in a matter of minutes.

34. Ahh...you went all the way to the Patriach Grove and were rewarded! We were
there at the very end of the day...no one there, quiet and reverential. Me and one of my daughters. Could touch them, sit with them, hug them, feel their strength and pain.

Being next to living things as old as the first Egyptian pyramids puts things in perspective!

35. Fantastic places - All of them!
I have been to Burning Man, but did not know about #7! Such a bloody shame! I will have to go back!

I have been to Torres Del Paine (#11), the red sand dunes of the Namib Desert (Dead Vlei and Sossussvlei are the most famous dunes), and #15 in the Four Corners area. I have so much more to do - these are the kinds of places that I love to travel to more than anything else in the world! I would take this kind of travel over a 5 star Caribbean Beach Resort without a doubt!

One of my favorite websites for travel geeks is www.mosttraveledpeople.com

42. Not a nice place to visit and I wouldn't want to live there. Still, it is
beautiful. I used to party up the coast at Massawa. It was hot as hell, but Gin and Tonic was ever present to dull my senses and protect me from malaria.

I believe this is the movie house I used to frequent. The movies were shown against a concrete wall up on the roof. You can see a bit of the wall. I remember watching Robert Stack movies there. He seemed to be popular among Italian filmmakers.

I used to sit under that round structure in the center of the image. My friends and I, high on gin and hashish, would watch fools water skiing inches above the coral, stingrays, sharks and urchins.
