"Obama to hit airwaves as health care plan wanes"...WTF? From SanFrancisco Chronicle |
|
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/07/22/MNR318SN0T.DTLInteresting way to describe a plan that the VAST MAJORITY of Americans want to see done and in a time when the FUCKING DEMS OWN both houses and the presidency. Are you SHITTING ME??? WHy is it waning? Is it Baucus? Is it Reid? WHO THE FUCK IS derailing health care? This is bullshit, folks.

4. I think you're right. Because the article doesn't indicate it's WANING as of yet |
|
but here's the deal. Now that Dems are belly aching they want Obama to give them some pointers on how to craft legislation, I think he should take them at their word. Just invade them with Tom Daschle, health care policy advisers, etc. and hold their hands in nailing down the details.
Congress. Bunch of stupid dipshits busy counting campaign coffers and votes--not an ounce of bravery.

7. I forewarned folks not to sit on our asses and get so involved in arguing with ourselves.... |
|
in particular the folks still not budging cause they are stuck over at the Single Payer Health care room, where the ponies are parked.
So we end up paralyzed doing absolutely nothing, meanwhile the media runs roughshod over us with the GOP's talking points, and at the end of it all, we scratch our asses and start blaming everyone else....
Same ol' same ol'.

Did you even read the damn article? Not one word about single payer. Not one single payer advocate quoted.

12. that may be. but a lot of the potential energy of activists is forestalled |
|
and contained by the fact that a bunch are whining they won't lift a finger to help and support this legislation because it doesn't have single payer. Oh, and what a coincidence....right on cue old Ralph Nader is taking the stage saying how important single payer is. Hey, Ralph. Go write a book or count your GOP money. But STFU!

14. Really? Who are these activist? |
|
What organizations that can rouse millions of people are thwarting the public option because they insist on single payer? MoveOn? Nope - public optin. AFL-CIO? - Nope - public option. DFA? Nope - public option.
Me personally? I've been working for single payer for 20 years and I've been advocating for a public option. But, if it is not available to all, if it doesn't include negotiating rates and prices with our corporate "health care" overlords? Then screw that. It becomes merely a guaranteed income to the insurance and pharmaceutical industries.
And you STFU about Nader. 10-11 million Democrats voted for Bush in 2000. What the fuck? And both Kerry and Obama accepted millions more money from Republicans than Nader could have imagined in his wildest dreams.

6. It's "waning" because the MEDIA needs for it all to "go away |
|
ADVERTISING.. from pharma, from insurance companies, from politicians.. these are valuable parts of the media revenue-stream.
IF real health care legislation came along, and PASSED, there would certainly be LESS money to feed the media beast.
Politician gets "donation" from pharma.. he "gives" it to media, in the form of ads...he gets elected, and returns the favor, by blocking legislation that would cost pharma $$..
In order to get support for the bill, pharma also "gives" money to media to bolster their position, asking people to support "congressman/senator "A"'s bill..
The media MUST portray true reform, as dangerous...risky..foolhardy..ridiculous..losing favor..etc.
The ONLY way we will ever take it all back would be to prohibit political/medical/legal ads on tv/radio...prohibit lobbying (except for non-profit)
and since none of that will happen, we are in deep doo doo..

hit," the Dems are "split," Obama is preparing for a "tough battle." Etc. Repeat. Spin. Repeat Etc. Watch Cenk from the Young Turks talk about the emergence of this BS meme. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLDxHl0dW68&feature=channel_page

10. thank you. Really. it comes down to who wants it more? |
|
if the health insurance companies win this communication and influence war, then we as Americans deserve what we get. I don't see people raising enough of a stink. I am HOPEFUL that when people as a whole see the way the evil fat bastards of corporate malfeasance are coming after this plan, they will get angry that something so fundamentally NEEDED is going to be denied them because some rich CEOs don't want the gravy train to stop.

17. I don't know about the"waning" bit... yes, Americans want and |
|
deserve comprehensive health care coverage. Are you sure that these proposals are going to provide that?
I'm not impressed with them--very unaffordable for regular people, even with subsidies, limiting who can enroll, and a few years before coverage begins, and just adds another paperwork layer for practitioners.
I think we can do much better. So much word out now about how many Congresspeople have been bought off, deals made in backrooms to protect drugmakers, insurers, and hospitals. It's horribly disappointing for me when the haze and hope is pulled away rapidly, so very sad, and such a sense of betrayal.

18. well, it remains to be seen, doesn't it? |
|
what they would LOVE to do is get a health care bill passed that doesn't include public option and only ends up making insurance companies richer. That is what you and I should be fighting along with inaction.

21. It's all in the definition of "affordable", and who gets to decide what affordable, is |
|
On paper, many people should be able to afford it, but in real life, cars break down, people lose jobs, etc. Affordability may be there in March, but not in August.
