.....Burge makes quiet appearance in court
July 22, 2009 10:00 AM
Former Chicago Police Cmdr. Jon Burge made a quiet appearance in federal court this morning without the protesters who have previously greeted him.

U. S. District Judge Joan Lefkow had asked Burge to make periodic appearances in court. He is set to go on trial Jan. 11 on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice stemming from a civil suit over torture allegations against him.

"Let's go on that date," Lefkow today told lawyers in the case.............

It is in today's Tribune. Burge tortured prisoners into confessing to murder during the 80s. He was Commander of a police district in Chicago. A number of tortured prisoners won release in the late 90s and early 00s, when confessions were thrown out and proved false. Yes, he used techniques that are, "illegal" ..but he used them as a Chicago Police Commander. (It is alleged, that he tied electric currents to prisoners testicles and charged them. That was just one of the techniques that I heard about years ago)
.. In the early 90s, he was forced out, and retired on full pension . He had never been charged with anything. Daley, the current mayor of Chicago, was States Attorney at the time of the torture, and claims he did not know anything about what was going on in that police district.

Pat Fitzgerald, the well known federal prosecutor, got him to testify on his actions in relation to a civil suit. Well...Commander Burge lied about what happened, and he is on trail for those lies..

This man,Burge, is one of the worst people to ever where a police uniform, encouraged torture and probably tortured suspects himself. Some of the detectives that used these techniques are still around. It is an unbeleiveable story of cover - up, corruption, lies and destruction of lives by the police. I urge anyone with any more links with more info, to add them to this thread to tell more of the story.
...thanks..Stuart G.
