DOR: Death Of Republicanism
Edited on Wed Jul-22-09 12:31 PM by sellitman
The Grand Old Party, also known as the Republican Party. 1854-2009. It is survived by Sarah Palin, Tom Tancredo, Bill O’Reilly, Glen Beck, and Joe the Plummer.

Moment of silence.

Today we mourn the passing of an old friend. Born in Ripon, Wisconsin by anti-slavery activists, the GOP elected its first President Abraham Lincoln in 1860. abraham-lincolnA once proud and honorable party has descended into what can only be described as desperate insanity. A party that once stood for freedom for all turned into the party of “freedom for us”. A once civil party has turned into a hateful party. The GOP was once called “the party of idea”. For a party that was once hailed for its inclusion, open-mindedness, and sensibility resembles a party of obstruction and intolerance.

4. I would venture to say that the death spiral began in about 1968 ...
... when Nixon took the GOP the rest of the way over to the Dark Side.

2009 is just when it finally flat-lined.

Maybe--maybe--the Republican Party has experienced enough reverses of late to keep it out of the game for one, maybe two election cycles, four years tops. But Americans are stupid and getting dumber every day.

They will forget.

If it gets bad enough, the GOP may have to change its name a couple of times, but the fact of the matter is that ten percent of this nation is comprised of people without conscience, and another twenty-three percent of this nation are right-wing authoritarians who will always, always, always follow the disinformation spread by the criminals.

That was Bush's 33% "basement," and it's why the GOP will never go away. If they all vote, they can easily approach the 50% necessary to win an election due to our historically low voter turnout, even without the help of institutionalized election theft. And all it takes to motivate them is stoking the fires of their hatred and prejudice. I guarantee you that they will line up in 2010 to try to cut the legs out from under President Obama's Congress, just as we did in 2006.

What needs to happen is the RWAs need to be parted from their criminal masters, maybe by running down the masters for the trillions of dollars worth of crimes they've committed in the past eight years, maybe by drawing them away to some less effective but more hateful organization. But some clever asshole with a conscience had better be there to catch the RWAs when they cut loose, to keep them running in circles. Otherwise, they'll go straight over to the Nazis and we'll be in a world of hurt.
