Tuesday morning, news outlets expressed their shock and outrage that a video of ESPN sportscaster Erin Andrews naked in her hotel room was posted on the Internet. And to highlight their outrage, they ... showed the pictures.
This world has gone mad.
Fox News Channel (that's the one always talking about family values and such) and the New York Post (owned by the same group but definitely not family-values-y) aired still photos taken from the video, with bars placed strategically to protect at least 10 percent of Andrews' privacy. And also to avoid the FCC. And CBS's "The Early Show" aired a few seconds of the video, blurring out some of it.
Oh, if only their computers had fallen prey to the virus that followed the links.
Andrews' attorney officially confirmed that the video, taken through the peephole, does indeed show the sportscaster. Marshall Grossman also reiterated that she intends to pursue civil penalties against the as-yet-unidentified perpetrators as well as those who distributed the video. Asked if that referred to those outlets that showed the material Tuesday, he repeated to the Associated Press that Andrews plans to go after "anyone who has published the material."
