The Canadian Woman in the Health Care Ads is Lying
A Canadian woman has been appearing in US health care reform ads saying that - if she'd waited 6 months, under the Canadian system she wouldn't be alive. According to the Mayo Clinic her life was not in danger and she could have waited - her surgery was also partially funded by charity.

1. If only there was an ad up the day after that came out, letting us know this.

6. Irrelevant. You play the best game you can. If you win, you win. If you lose, you lose...
But as long as the best game is on, I can live with losing.

12. Ad, Schmad. Where are our newspeople?
Why aren't the talking heads on TV debunking this story? Where are the serious reporters?
Oh, that's right. They don't exist anymore. They're not supposed to be concerned about the facts anymore. Just lookin' good and rating well.
Cheesh.

3. She falls into the category of those
who believe their condition is more grave than it actually is. A sizeable percentage of Canadians seeking care in US.

5. It also wasn't cancer
but a slow growing benign cyst. The stupid cow just panicked and once she found a charity to pay part of the damages, hot footed it to the Mayo Clinic instead of listening to her doctors.

By the way, she had to wait there, too, as you don't just walk in the door and get treatment.

Now she's trying to pay for the rest of it by lying to the US public.

She's a pathetic, lying, greedy bitch and a perfect spokesmodel for the insurance industry.

9. Of course she's lying ....
Would anyone have paid her to state that the canadian health care system is far better than the U.S. (lack of) one?

I am convinced that there will be some longer waits in the US if we get some type of universal health care ... we will add millions to the numbers of people that can actually receive health care. I realize that many elites (or those that believe they are elite) do not want to share their privileged places in the health care line .... but society has an obligation to provide this most basic need.

10. I'm a dual citizen

I've experienced both systems: Canada is better and the wait times are at best misunderstood and at worst mythical: It's called triage, if it's an emergency you get seen right away - even emergency surgery that requires a specialist. Canadian health care will fly you anywhere in the country, and even out of the country if it's necessary and an emergency.

If it's not an emergency you may have to wait a bit, especially if you're in the E.R.

Basically they prioritize based on the severity of your condition, not the size of your wallet. Damn socialists.

14. It really ticks me off that "they" feel the need to slam the Canadian system
I am convinced that those that oppose healthcare reform are motivated by greed.

16. And that's just plain silly. The elites still hold a privileged place in the health care line...

...even in single payer countries.

It's just that EVERYONE gets to BE in line.

20. I'm surprised the Christian right isn't pro-health care
More health care = fewer abortions. The costs of having a baby alone are staggering, not to mention the cost of health care for children.

21. I'm not surprised
There is very little Christianity in what those people believe. Certainly justice and equality for ALL is not part of their belief system.

Sad, very sad.

22. National health care does not bode well for corporations or religion.

The less likely people will require the charity of a church, to help out in time of medical crisis for instance, the more autonomous and secular they become.

National health care doesn't always mean less abortions tho. What are those Swedes doing? :D But looking at these stats, yes, the more access to health care, the less need for abortion. If you can get in to see a doctor once a year, chances are s/he'll pound it into your head that you need to use birth control.
