Jockey injured, horse euthanized on opening day of Del Mar racing season

A horse ridden by top jockey Rafael Bejarano suffered a broken right front leg in the third race at Del Mar's opening day, sending Bejarano to the track, where he was kicked by a trailing horse and left motionless on the track.

The horse, a Doug O'Neill-trained, Argentine-bred named Mi Rey, right front leg dangling loosely, continued down the track and right in front of the main grandstand in a horrific scene becoming all too familiar in thoroughbred racing.

I thought they were using a new track material that would help keep this kind of thing from happening.

I hope the jockey is okay and I feel terrible for the horse...RIP
