It's the Media, Stupid !
"Well, what do you think about the President's speech last night?" Joe asks.
Mike replies, "Well, he did reasonably well."
"But he didn't hit it out of the park, did he?"
Then they went to the question about Mr Gates, the black friend of the President who was arrested in his own home.

So begins the media spin of the day.

The subtle opposition to health-care in the media, with Republicans thrown in as the front men, goes on for yet another day. But, in the end, it is the dummy that sells the show. The media is Charlie McCarthy.

1. Lead story Boston Globe today. The arrest. While that is of
importance, the lead should have been the Presidents speech.

The whole country is now at risk and is wondering what the President is doing about runaway healthcare costs. Whether we agree with all of his proposals as they now stand-or not. It was an extremely important speech to assure all of us that he is fighting tooth and nail to get this none.

I feel the Professors situation is important and does represent a problem, the far more major story was the speech.

I feel the Globe did its readers a disservice placing that story as the lead.

I most appreciated the feel that the President projected. It gave me confidence that he is battering heads and intends to get this job done.

2. Well, Tweety and Howard Fineman literally agreed last night
that since there was "nothing new" in the presser regarding health care, Gates WOULD be the "bigger" story...

3. i feel like obama walked into a trap with that question. because that's all they were talking about
on the morning news... which i only saw the today show. i haven't been watching any cable news for awhile now... to preserve my sanity. but that's what they talked about, and the only part they showed was were he said the police did something stupid.
