The election of our first black president has brought with it a strange proliferation of online racism among conservatives.

And we've got the latest example.

On Sunday night, Dr. David McKalip forwarded to fellow members of a Google listserv affiliated with the Tea Party movement the image below. Above it, he wrote: "Funny stuff."

"But McKalip isn't just some random winger. He's a Florida neurosurgeon, who serves as a member of the American Medical Association's House of Delegates.

He's also an energetic conservative opponent of health-care reform. McKalip founded the anti-reform group Doctors For Patient Freedom, as well as what seems to be a now defunct group called Cut Taxes Now. Last month he joined GOP congressmen Tom Price and Phil Gingrey, among others, for a virtual town hall to warn about the coming "government takeover of medicine." And in a recent anti-reform op-ed published in the St. Petersburg Times, McKalip wrote that "Congress wants to create larger, government-funded programs for health care and more bureaucracy that ration care and impose cookbook medicine."

13. I'll tell you where I saw that first

I am from a small town in So. IL. I was visiting my mother and we went to the local restaurant. One of the patrons prints off copies and leaves them on the tables for anyone who wants to read it. Most of it is wingnuttery in its highest. This picture is one of the "gems" on the table.

As people picked up the papers, many thought this picture was so hilarious. As soon as I saw it, I said very loudly, "Oh my God, how racist can you get?" As soon as I said that, a few agreed with me and even more stopped reading the garbage.

This trash, in all of its forms, must be confronted and stopped.

Funny you should mention the KKK, I now live in an area of IN that is close to one of the largest KKK groups around. The best part about the election in Nov. was that the county where I now live went blue! :D

I love it when they start telling me their professional opinion. Next time I hear one I'll ask him if I can start writing prescriptions...because if they use their titles' "expertise" in fields they know nothing about perhaps they would do the professional courtesy of sharing their own capabilities to those who are not in the medical field...

I'm certain there are all kinds of standards that they expect their practitioners to uphold and this incident may give them some pause.

I've contacted all 4 hospitals that this guys has on his website where he practices. At one facility, the Administrators had heard about it several hundred times over and were meeting to address his message. Two had not heard of it but were more than kind about taking my message and information - especially after I asked if they had black employees or patient population and how would those folks like to know that their 'esteemed' doctor was a racist.

So, I think it may be a bit uncomfortable for this guy - guess he should have thought about this first.
