We need a national *survey on health care

edited to survey instead of referendum, since apparently a referendum is unconstitutional

also, this would be for informational purposes only, and could be a ballot sent to all registered voters..

Single-payer, everybody into the same "pool" of covered, National Health care ID card, pay nothing at the point of service. Coverage for everyone is the same. (this plan would fold in the VA, Medicare, Medicaid...the VA would still operate critical care/rehab facilities for the war-wounded)

this plan is totally "portable", and there is no employer participation . Funds that have been withheld for employer-payments for current plans will be considered regular income, and will show up on employee paychecks from now on.

This will be paid for by a sliding scale of taxation, based on ability to pay, and by the elimination of the 30% (or more) now being taken as profit to insurance companies, and by the consolidation of medicare, medicaid & VA into one plan.

Continue as we are now, with everyone on their own to get coverage from insurance companies. Employers would still offer insurance as a perk, but are not required to, if they prefer to pay a penalty.

Companies would no longer be able to deny for pre-existing conditions, and coverage would be portable, but everyone has to get their own coverage, and not everyone will have the same coverage. (uninsured/under-insured people will still get emergency care, and that cost will be passed onto the buyers of insurance in some fashion)

there would be an option for low income people, separate from the rest, if they qualify.


Whatever the people decide should be the guideline, and THEN congress needs to eliminate OTHER things..like maybe WARS.. to pay for it.

With a *survey, there would be NO question about what the people want..no need for weekly bogus polls..no need for hand-wringing from pols who claim they just don't know what people need or want.

1. After CA, no more referendums, and after electronic voting, I fear for all aspects of an election

truly representative and voice of the people.

We are asking the questions we need to, and Obama has stamina for all of it, but Baucus not getting it out of committee is slowing everything down to the point of danger. Once bills out of the House and Senate, Obama weighs in pushing, but we don't want any detail to be the rallying cry to derail this before they're out.

But what if Baucus never signs on to surtax, we just go home?

2. There is no consitutional instrument to provide for national referendums

The closest consitutional instrument to p[rovide for a national referendum are presidential elections, and even that isn't a national referendum.

3. Okay, then we call it a National Survey.. My suggestion would not be a binding referendum

just a way to let all the people weigh in on what they truly want..


It could just be mailed to every registered voter, if need be:)
