I want to see an investigation of Steroids in the Police Force.
Edited on Thu Jul-23-09 03:33 PM by slampoet
It is long overdue.

Nearly no one is directly affected by Baseball players who use steroids, but we all have to deal with "Officer 'Roid Rage" every day.

Aren't these chiefs concerned about their own officers? or are the Chiefs just trying to rise up the ranks and sweep this under the rug?

1. Roid rage is a myth.
Not that it shouldn't still be investigated.

19. Oh it was horrible. Check out the old movie "Bigger Than Life" sometime
It is basically about the side effects of those types of drugs. Same director as "Rebel Without A Cause"

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0049010/plotsummary

Bigger Than Life (1956)

Schoolteacher and family man Ed Avery, who's been suffering bouts of severe pain and even blackouts, is hospitalized with what's diagnosed as a rare inflammation of the arteries. Told by doctors that he probably has only months to live, Ed agrees to an experimental treatment: doses of the hormone cortisone. Ed makes a remarkable recovery, and returns home to his wife, Lou, and their son, Richie. He must keep taking cortisone tablets regularly to prevent a recurrence of his illness. But the "miracle" cure turns into its own nightmare as Ed starts to abuse the tablets, causing him to experience increasingly wild mood swings.

It really is a miracle drug, it saved my life.

2. It should be investigated and any officer found to be using steriods
should be dismissed for illegal drug use and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

3. How would you conduct that exactly? Force every police officer
to get a blood test?

Wouldn't that violate their civil rights? :eyes:

Maybe we should just force every American to undergo a screening in order to rid society from the scourge of steriods....yeah, not a very good idea, but I think you can see the point I'm making here.

5. Every cop already submits to drug tests. You just expand what the labs look for.

17. Every commercial vehicle driver in this country is subject to drug screening.
And, no, it doesn't violate my rights because it is the law. If I want to work, I get tested. Simple.

All they have to do is expand the testing and they could test me for steroids, too.

And testing public officials for banned substances isn't that bad of an idea.

13. Yes. I believe there is a strong negative influence among police from steroid use.
It's obvious some departments have juicers.

14. Police forces have been excellent and keeping steroids out of the work force.
For example, I offer 8 time Mr. Olympia, Ronnie Coleman here in his honest-to-God Arlington Police uniform (he's not a cop anymore, but he was for much of his bodybuilding career):

Do I need the sarcasm smilie? Didn't think so.

That's not to say that steroids are as prolific in the police orgs as they are in say Major League Baseball, but there are certainly likely examples across the country.

20. It's not legal to test every officer without probable cause
However, tests of randomly chosen officers is allowed

I had to conduct the drug test program while I was in the USAF

There are rules.
