Bush, the Iraq War, letting Cheney off the hook, pushing the "free trade" garbage that has destroyed our middle class, for trying to kill healthcare reform, put your hate where it belongs on the corporate media.

4. The corporate media whores definitely deserve some of the blame
And their entire purpose is to keep the general public ignorant and uninformed.

But it's the DLC traitors and BlueBalled cowards who willingly voted (along with the Repukes) to enable all the things you mentioned. And they cannot be let off the hook either.

47. I assume you have to be talking about Dish Network. I just sent them back their shit
Edited on Fri Jul-24-09 06:00 AM by corkhead
I got a washing machine sized box instead of the one they finally sent sent me and packed up the ENTIRE dish (wasp nests and all) and shipped it off using their shipping label.

I have been at war with dish network for about 3 months. it started when I had equipment failure and they wanted to charge me $100 to look at it. I had been easy monthly money for them for 5 years. I canceled my service and they have been nothing but pricks ever since, including trying to charge my credit card $700 for not sending their shit back fast enough when they hadn't sent me the box with the shipping label.

I am on a life mission to tell everyone I can how much of a horrible waste of money Dish Network is. They can't go bankrupt quickly enough for my satisfaction.

10. Scum
There are few life forms lower than media whores. If there was a revolution, and I wound up installed as dictator, they would pay a very terrible price for their crimes.

I turned my TV off several years ago and don't subscribe to any newspapers or magazines. I get all my news from the Internet. Of course, the 'Net itself is rife with media whores - many of them posing as the good guys.

I'm really interested in Hugo Chavez' war against the media. I'd like to learn more about his methods and results. Many people accuse him of censorship, but how do you take out a media whore without somehow resorting to censorship? I'd like to "censor" Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, the Seattle Times and literally thousands of others.

I remember Watergate. If we had news organizations now the way we did back then, after Joe Wilson revealed what he knew about the yellowcake, Bush wouldn't have had a chance to take a pee, he would have been so busy with hearings into everything he'd done since he took office.

16. Yes, that would be b/c of Reagan's repeal of the Fairness Doctrine.
I was predicting this media downfall way back then, and still can't believe so many people are blind to its repercussions.

Of course, that's probably b/c the media never reports on the Fairness Doctrine. Since most Americans are pretty clueless about any news or history that isn't force fed them by the CM, they don't even know to question the practice--or lack thereof. Chicken and egg situation. :(

28. I don't like the media....
I don't think they are truthful most of the time. I think they slant the news. I read several accounts of reporters taking money from entities representing the Bush administration. That is corrupt and illegal.

However, Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and all of Bush's other flunkies are responsible for their actions too. They are even more corrupt and cynical than the people who reported their actions. I think there is enough blame to go around if you are into blaming. Let the perpetrators share the wealth with their town criers.

54. They are the mouthpiece and dream-maker behind corporate supremacy.
Edited on Fri Jul-24-09 11:10 AM by Uncle Joe
Considering their financial configuration, they will never represent you; the American People and will always represent either the corporations; that own them or purchase their commercials.

Corporations are the corporate media's De Facto clients first, last and in the middle, the American People; are only customers or consumers; to be sold a product, candidate or down the river.

There is a significant difference in allegiance and fiduciary responsibility owed to a client versus a customer or consumer with the client being in the supreme position.

I believe the long term dysfunction; of the American People not having an honest broker and significant free press institution looking out for their best interests; as the Preamble to the Constitution and First Amendment calls for, while holding government to accountability creates an adverse dynamic with a rotting effect to our nation from the inside out. The rich will get richer, the poor will get poorer, the middle income class will shrink becoming insignificant in size and the resulting strain will put serious stress on our democratic republic.

My only reason for optimism; is the growing power and influence of the Internet, but we must remain ever vigilant against the same monopolistic forces; doing their best to neutralize the people power of the Internet by taking it over in form or another.

Thanks for the thread, Lorax.

68. Exactly!
Fewer companies = fewer points of view.

That's what corporate personhood really means, for me... everybody in a company has to have the same point of view, when it comes to media influence; so that no matter how large a company might be, it is, essentially, ONE philosophy, ONE point of view, ONE opinion.

And those six "persons" copycat each other to stay competitive in the marketplace. How many points of view, then, do we REALLY have?

The best way would be to reinstitute the fairness doctrine, then revoke licenses for violations.

69. Hellish. Even if you don't watch, listen, or read, it's a totally closed loop!

The corporate media completely define the agenda in this country.

You can't escape them -- even if you unplug completely.

Why? Because your friends and neighbors -- even those you trust and admire -- are unwittingly acquiring their topics, their priorities, and their views from the corporate media and then passing them on like a virus to everyone around them.

Much of the propaganda winds up in supposedly independent, free-thinking blogs, masquerading as original ideas.

78. hate speech?
Both Bushes hired a PR firm to sway the American people to go along with their wars. Most of the media, instead of asking hard questions or having those promoting attacking Iraq-mostly had their "cheerleaders" on air. Under the last * administration it was more blatant. You could turn from one network to the other, and I swear, it was almost the same content coming out of the talking head's mouth. Repetition, repetition of lies, they make the zombies (I mean masses) regurgitate their talking points. I'm sure many here remember the Kuwait baby incubator lie during poppy's Iraq war, then the WMD lie-Saddam has the capability to launch an attack on the US lie (hell, after the embargo, Saddam was just trying to keep the country together).

The right wing has repetitiously yelled for twenty years that the media was liberally bias. Twenty years of seeding that thought to the public. Now, repetition is a useful propaganda tool, for repetition is used to influence the subconscious mind. A catastrophic event, an authoritarian figure and repetitious propaganda make for swaying the general public.

I'd say for some, the rose colored glasses have been stripped, and because of such blatant moves by the media, it's intentions are seen. For it is MSM that actually attempts to "sway" the public into voting for elected leaders, usually by making one candidate more palatable than another. A scandal is only a scandal if the media says it's so.

I appreciate viewing KO, Rachel Maddow, Jon Stewart and Colbert. But, they are not on main networks (less people have access)-what's on the main networks, are corporate influenced talking heads, nothing more. These corporations have tentacles in other business interest-I doubt you'd ever see a news piece on one of their products, unless it was an advertisement. I'd say they influence the general public, not for our health or interest, but theirs. And, that can be very harmful to the public.

Dialogue and debate makes for a healthy democracy. Healthy debate with actual tough, knowledgeable debaters--not some token shill used as a target for some neo-con (or should I say neo-cons-since it's usually two to one) to obliterate on TV.

If they cant do the job right, then let someone else have that frequency and to hell with them. They have lost the confidence of the American people and do not deserve to continue to use our airwaves and put their crap into our living rooms.

83. deeds, not just words
I took my television to electronics recycling. Only get the very local paper newspaper.

Plenty of news on the web other than the MSM via my computer.

DVDs, Netflix = no need for what else is on tv.

Save a bundle on cable bills (antennas don't pull in anything in my area of the boonies.)

Cheer when someone talks about newspapers going out of business.

why???

The viewers liked what the president said, the media jumped up and screamed "boring".

Shultz asked this question - 6000 tweeters said 60/40 for POTUS

Way too many uninformed people in this country and they make it worse. No wonder Jon Stewart is now the most trusted man in the news

88. I don't know...
I'm kind of of the mindset that if both sides are vehemently, rabidly declaring that the media is biased towards them, it's more than likely somewhere in the middle, which is right where it should be.

98. No, the media should always be after the truth and report the truth..
not spin, gotchya, and ignoring stories of import (like the anti-war protests, yet covering 15 people showing up for a tea party). Its not about sides; its about the truth.

The fact that they would over cover the Gates affair and ignore or side corner the health care story and congress speaks volumes. This s half due to tabloidism and half due to politics. They also think I give a damn about dancing wedding parties.
