1. I know, right?
Not European = not entitled to health care.

It's just that simple.

4. Careful
In the last 10 years, I've seen scathing parody turn into right wing conventional wisdom with alarming frequency.

5. 1770 euro per person per year
Edited on Thu Jul-23-09 05:48 PM by BelgianMadCow
is what our ENTIRE social security program costs. That includes health care (doctor visit: 10 euro, basic hospital insurance: 150 euro for a family, on edit: per YEAR) and unemployment and things like maternity leave.
It really IS possible.

unfortunately, here as well, the crisis is being used to put the entire system in jeopardy...

8. Funny what you can buy when you don't have a "defense" budget as big as the rest of the world, huh?
On top of that, we pay about 70% more for health care for about 40% less than the rest of the industrialized world.

It's sooooo fucking stupid. We're buying DEATH, not health. :grr:

12. The only word for the US defense budget is "obscene"
Edited on Thu Jul-23-09 05:47 PM by BelgianMadCow
but you knew that..

<Insert your favorite Eisenhower MIC quote here>

Once I discussed the sorry state of the US with my brother, speaking of the eventual demise which I thought was coming pretty soon. Always the more pragmatical of us two, he said "yeah sure but they still own all the guns"...

6. We need tort reform
Maybe a loser pays system would discourage the liberal use of lawsuits that are driving up our health care expenses.

26. What's the point of disguising yourself as a liberal if you bring that right-wing "tort reform"
horseshit out right after you get here?

Tort reform is Doctor-speak for: "We shouldn't be held responsible for our own bad medical decisions."

You think doctors are going to stop making poor choices if the jury simply shakes their fingers and says "Cease and desist"? There has to be an economic disincentive for those who commit malpractice, or it's never going to stop.

Now, do you want pepperoni on your tombstone?

...shithead...

24. Yup.....
We lack so many things that the rest of civilized world already has. Although I believe we will get them eventually but not a for very long time. When we do get them the rest of the civilized world will have a whole bunch of new things and once again it will take us a long time to catch up.
