What is the procedure for proving a public official's citizenship? |

And what did Barack Obama do differently than all the other politicians that makes the birthers case so exceptional?
I'm not understanding this.
John McCain was not born within the United States. He was born on a military base in Panama. Yet his technical circumstance gets the green light from birthers?
This is simply ridiculous and immature. Using the phrase "grasping at straws" is too kind a sentiment. These people are full blown racist, moronic crybabies.

3. I read on another thread that McCain wasn't |
|
actually born on the military base, it was a civilian hospital. According to that thread the Senate amended the law somehow to make him eligible to run anyway..

4. The problem is that Obama is Presidentin' while African American. |
|
That's the whole issue right there. McCain is Caucasian so it doesn't matter where he was born. Then again, at the White House Correspondents' Dinner (I think), Obama admitted to being born on Krypton so maybe he is an alien after all.

7. simple. obama is black and his father is from kenya, so apparently |
|
he MUST not be a citizen. while mccain, who was not even born in the US is. hmm. there has to be a reason why he is not the legitimate president to these people. bush wasn't because he was installed by the supreme court, and yet to question his presidency was anti american. so how is what these jerks are doing NOT anti american??

13. I understand the original intent of being a natural born citizen to be President, but modern times |
|
require this to be amended.
How about if a person is currently an American citizen, and has been a legal resident of the United States, continuously, for the past 25 years, then they can run for President?
Remember, the first 3 Presidents weren't natural born citizens of the United States. That's because the United States didn't exist when they were born! Their birth certificates would have only showed them being born in Massachusetts or Virginia. The phrase "United States of America" would be nowhere on those documents. However, President Obama's birth certificate has "U.S.A." on it.

The possibility of someone holding office in 2 countries at once exists. With a natural born citizen requirement the assumption would be that the President is wholly loyal to his/her country of birth.

If there is a requirement that someone has lived in the US for 25+ years, they will almost certainly not be a political leader in another country.
Besides that, we could always add a clause making it necessary for the official to not be of any political power in another country.

that one, for 25 consecutive years?
I'm talking about having all residences in only one country for 25 consecutive years.

22. Combined with the current requirement that the President be at least 35 years old, this means the |
|
candidate would likely have spent the majority of his/her life in America, especially the last 25 years.

They want Obama gone by any means necessary. If they thought slathering themselves with cooking oil would do it, Crisco's stock would be up 50% overnight. They will try anything at hand, and this is what's at hand.
Too bad for them it's a total non-starter.
