Twice I was arrested for harassment of a police officer over a parking ticket.

2. I voted 10, because I believe that you are under arrest any time you are detained. |
|
But I have only been taken in twice and booked once. I'm not really sure why I wasn't booked the first time, but they didn't and eventually the charges were dropped.

It's like asking "how many times have you wrecked your mototrcycle?" If you don't own a mototrcycle, or if you do amd have never wrecked it, there's no sense in responding.
That's the way I took it, anyways. I could be wrong... wouldn't be the first, or last, time...

37. Yeah we all know that beating an issue to death is the only thing DU does well |
|
Lets think what possible reason would there be to post a poll which asks "How many times have you been arrested" and then not to even include a 0 option, in the mist of 48 hours of bashing and generalizing police all around the country. If this such generalizing was acceptable in other forms and ways on DU this place would need 10 times the moderation. So much righteousness in the wings of dissent I thought for a moment DU was a cascading storm of narrow-minded viewpoints and shouting other voices down until you win by default.
I guess there was so many more people present at Mr Gates house someone should have captured this whole thing on video tape. I am just waiting for it to pop up on Youtube.

Yet I notice that now you changed the value "9" to read "not yet". I really do find it amusing how you assume that at least everyone on DU will at some point in the lives be hassled by the police for no damn "legal reason" and subject to arrest. Yet some people, even those of color, will go their entire lives encountering dozens of police and will retain their freedom each time.

I'm 60 years old, and I suspect it's not even a record.
I'm reminded of the time I was at a Dunkin Donuts in a northern Detroit suburb (forget which one) and started chatting with another customer who turned out to be a bail bondsman. His view of the world was that everyone, literally everyone would need a bail bondsman's services some day. Again, so far I've not needed them. And I seriously doubt I ever will.

aint that the truth
i had airport sec and police intimidating my 4 and 7 yr old boys. my youngest about to cry. i sat next to him and ask cop what was up. she says, searching their bags. i ask, why are you standing here. she says.... to protect sec gal from you.
my mouth dropped open
i nudge my youngest, laugh and say, me... pacifist me.... protecting her from little ole me, all the while smilin and laughing with little one.
i told the cop, treat us all as criminals and that is just what we will all become.
god, i hate the power trip. not something i will be quiet on. not something i want my children to ever learn, ever submit to, ever feel a norm. on the other hand....

You're the one who posted that you were "arrested for harassment of a police officer".
Was that purely a miscarriage of justice on their part, or did you give them reason to break your balls?
Myself... I've never been arrested... ever. In fact I've only gotten 1 moving violation in 30 years of driving and 3 parking tickets within the last 10.
Not that I'm an anal citizen when it comes down to obeying the law (I speed like a mother fucker and park with common sense) I just have the skills and common sense to know when and where situations would not be advantageous to me.

My partner has been pulled over and treated with extreme condescension in a tiny rural town on the highway for passing another car in a legally marked passing zone, because "we have an ordinance here that there is no passing within city limits" - said ordinance was NOT posted anywhere and we were eventually let go with a 'warning' but only after extreme dickitude on the part of the officer.

traffic stop etiquette:
1. Use signals
2. Move to the FAR right of the shoulder. It's okay to be in the grass a little.
3. Turn on hazard lights
4. Turn off motor.
5. Turn on interior lighting
6. Roll down window

My philosophy has always been: Keep a low profile. If the system knows you exist it WILL fuck with you. Best if the system doesn't know you're there. Confrontation of ANY kind is simply not consistent with the low-profile philosophy. Neither is disobeying traffic laws.

I was a city firefighter at the time. Driving in an alcoholic blackout I crashed into a police towing operation. Everyone was trying to enable me to get off, but ultimately I was arrested. The officer apologized for having to cuff me in the elevator. My bail was posted by a fellow firefighter before I was booked.
Turned out to be a good thing for me and fortunately no one besides me was hurt.

Seems like this: Act like an asshole to the police, get locked up. Call rich white daddy and you can get away with it.
It is the self fulfilling prophecy. Act like such a douche nozzle that they arrest you, then blame their dislike for you on racism.

But my hubby came close recently. Cop was a total jerk to him but I told him to calm down. Cop got in his face because of a no parking zone in front of a club where my hubby was playing with his band. He called me and was very upset because the officer went off on him for no apparent reason. Luckily, no arrest happened.

Last time I had to sport cuffs in the winter at a drive-thru ATM for about 45 minuets until they decided I wasn't who they were looking for. Supposedly, I made a "California" stop (right, whatever) and when they ran me someone with a similar name had a warrant. They told me they almost just let me go because they thought I was white (if you know a white person they *probably* are more fair).
I cooperated fully and figuratively sucked their balls so when they got tired of fucking with me they let me go and hit me with a stay out of trouble. I didn't do a damn thing wrong and obviously didn't match the description of who they were looking for (if anyone) but still had my time wasted without compensation or even an apology, and was treated more like I got lucky somehow.

80. Twice, once for shoplifting and once for possession. |

Both fair cops, and both times the police were decent.
My third encounter with them was when I got cleaned up on my bike by a driver who I later learned was speeding to beat a red light. I was turning across traffic and legitmately in the intersection when I was hit.
The cops took my statement when I was concussed (a big no no) and when I later tried to ammend it based on information given to me by a witness in the cross street who says the light was green for them at the time of the collison, they (the police) were not interested and actually threatened to charge me on the basis of my original statement in which I said the sun might have been in my eyes and I did not see the oncomming car, if I tried to take the matter further.
Simply put they did not want to expose their own wrongdoing in taking my statement while I was concussed.
