Johnny Depp and Carol Channing support Depp as Carol in biopic.
http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/movies/2009/07/23/2009-07-23_carol_channing_wants_johnny_depp_to_play_her_in_movie_of_her_life_and_johnny_dep.html

A Carol Channing biopic starring Johnny Depp might seem like an off-the-wall idea, but the unlikely sounding project has two key supporters: Johnny Depp and Carol Channing. After the Mirror quoted Depp last week saying that playing Channing would be his "dream role," Channing has now announced she'd love to see his handsome mug fill her heels in a big screen version of her life.

"I think he is a gifted performer and I would be very proud, as well as interested in seeing what his vision of me would be," the octogenarian Tony-winning singer and comedienne told Broadway World.

As for that niggling issue of gender, Channing pooh-poohed the idea that a man - a very good looking one to boot - wouldn't be perfectly well-suited to the role of hers truly.

(It's ok, she probably backed one of the peace candidates in '68).

she had a changing screen on stage. IIRC.. from my seat definetly not a drag character. Well I only saw her upper body until I averted my gaze! Age had not lessened by much....

Johnny Depp as a female singer.... might work.

Took me a bit to figure out why BonBon looked so familiar. I think he'd be a great Carol Channing.

35. I am so, so sorry
and while agreeing that JD is an interesting actor, I have recently watched 'From Hell', where he plays Frank Aberline, the detective who hunted Jack the Ripper in London in the 1880s.

It was possibly the most hammy, corny, contrived, artificial, amateurish performance I've ever seen on film.

23. That's got to be an extremely challenging role
Depp is one of the few great film actors of this era, I think. Right now I can't see how he can do it convincingly, but he certainly has talent and I don't doubt his committment. I applaud his desire to take risks and not continually play the same character movie-after-movie as some other actors do.

Jackie Gleason does LSD in the weirdest musical prison scene you've ever seen and Groucho Marx is a crime boss named God. I highly recommend it for it's marvelous, 60's era camp value.

Sorala arrived with forty other Gurkha wives, all wearing traditional green saris bearing the Gurkha emblem of two crossed Khukuri knives.

As they waited for Ms Lumley's plane to touch down, they handed out placards bearing the slogans "daughter of Nepal", "goddess" and "thank you". <...>

"We don't have any word to describe her, because she's like an original goddess for the Gurkhas. So we'll heartily welcome her to Kathmandu.

"It is a homecoming for her," he said.
