Check out this NY Post headline on the New Jersey arrests story.....
..... is it just me or is this really offensive?

KOSHER NOSTRA & DIRTY JERSEY
* RABBIS & TOP POLS AMONG 44 BUSTED
* SCHEMES TO SELL KIDNEYS, LAUNDER $$
* INFORMANT 'BRIBER' CAUGHT BIGS ON TAPE

By JEANE MacINTOSH, CHUCK BENNETT and JON COSTANTINO

Everything was for sale -- from politicians to kidneys.

Separate federal probes targeting rogue rabbis in Brooklyn and corrupt public officials in New Jersey led to the arrests yesterday of 44 people, including three mayors and five religious leaders.

All the suspects in both investigations were brought down by the same shady developer, who wore a wire for three years while he bought off politicians, passed supposedly dirty money for laundering and even arranged for a $160,000 kidney sale.

"The list of names and titles of those arrested today sounds like a roster for a community leaders' meeting," said Weysan Dun, the special agent in charge of the FBI's Newark office. "Sadly, these prominent individuals were not in a meeting room, but were in the FBI booking room this morning." ...........(more)

1. Typical tabloid fodder. Dancing along the line of good judgment.

I'm not offended. It's so typical of that rag.

Edit to add: I laughed, too. :hide:

3. KOSHER NOSTRA?
Ok, that brought a slight guffaw out.

That underlying story is just plain nuts, though. I wonder how long they investigated before the arrests.

Here in Chicago, we have US Atty Fitzpatrick, who makes dying snails look like supercharged Ferraris, and who thinks that maple sap in winter flows way too fast. His Plame investigation pace guaranteed that only Scooter Libby would ever be charged. His pace here in Illinois, has allowed some potential defendants to die before they ever get charged. Why people think is is the cat's meow is beyond me.

One interesting thing is that those arrested were both democrats and republicans. During the era of Bush, the investigations concentrated only on democrats.

8. They've been working on this investigation for almost 3 years
Solomon Dwek was busted for bank fraud in 2006. Supposedly he started cooperating with the Feds sometime shortly thereafter. The original investigation was the money laundering probe against the rabbis. The introductions to corrupt politicians came later.

That any NJ politician would do take bribes from an indicted bank fraudster who had been out on bail for a couple of years is hard to believe.

But they are both greedy and stupid.

Note that at least in former times, members of the Hudson County democratic machine summered in the "Irish Riviera", Spring Lake Heights, which is a little south of Deal along the Jersey Shore.

10. This investigation has been ongoing for 10 years
This is actually the 3rd round of arrests.

I'm of the opinion that should the FBI arrest everyone involved, NJ would be without a government.

17. IIRC the kosher guys were selling human organs and laundering money
It's actually an appropriate pun, if you think about it. And I'm sure many Italians get offended with the *Soprano State* comments about New Jersey.
