1. The follow up should be - how to admit you did something racist and move on
Not many people would say I'm racist, but I've had my moments. I work on admitting that and trying to have a better understanding of how my attitudes and actions contribute to the problem.

on another note - my God! The comments on this one are HORRIBLE

8. And this is a racist society -- we can easily say or do racist things without 'intending' racism.
And the definitions and sensitivities are constantly changing -- which does not mean that they shouldn't change, rather that we should be as aware as possible of where the lines are being redrawn, and how they are being negotiated.

12. It's "I" messages vs. "YOU" messages.....something we aren't taught.
Along with Active Listening.

This society lacks good communication skills.

17. Exactly!
The people in my bank know me and joke with me a lot.

So, one day I pulled this on a favorite teller, complete with holding a banana in the proper position.

She laughed her head off!

Last week, the bank manager, who has been exceedingly kind to me was with the tellers, and they laughed seeing me, so I asked her if she was offended by a four-letter word and she responded "No", so I said this to her, and after cracking up, said, "You're so funny, Bobbie".

It's great to do business with a bank with humor!

Can you imagine walking into a 7/11 with a banana and doing that?

:scared:

help deal with defensiveness. Doesn't mean people won't get defensive.

And (defensive) folks themselves would need to distinquish b/w who they are and what they said/did..........

He's trying to do something idealistic and constructive. What occurs often is a "that's not in my thinking already so I don't have to think about it" stuckness.
