GOP Strategists Worry Attacks Will Backfire

"Republicans, seeking to regain political ground in the health-care debate, have launched a series of attacks on Democrats' overhaul plan. But some GOP strategists worry an aggressive approach could backfire, if voters decide the party is obstructing efforts to address an issue they care about," the Wall Street Journal reports.

Polling analysis by Resurgent Republic shows that worry about rising health care costs outstrips every other economic concern today.

"That is forcing Republicans to try to strike a tricky balance. Even as they hammer at President Barack Obama's plan, in a bid to reduce its size and delay its passage, they are trying to convince voters the GOP also wants to achieve changes that would reduce health costs and expand access to care."

2. They should also worry about the Republican wingnut birthers running around the country.
Talk about backlash potential. Ginning up false xenophobia against a President who won in a landslide.

4. They are named the stupid party for a reason.
They will probably shoot themselves in the foot over this. The Dems at the hearings will trot out disadvantaged people, real heart warming cases of down to earth people you can identify with. Us Dems. really know how to appeal at the personal level to the public. The Reps. on the other hand will probably call out health insurance executives or businessmen and they will talk about money, tax write off and such. Don't fret, Obama's health care will pass.

5. This is one reason why I say Reid should just LET them filibuster this if they threaten to.
Let's let the rest of the country see who has their interests at heart -- and, just as importantly, who DOESN'T.
