How come the summer recess for congress still exists?
Wasn't the reason it existed in the first place was because it was to hot to hold congress and to allow those members who were farmers to put in their crops?

I mean, WTF?

They have A/C now and I bet I can count the members of congress that are still farmers are zero to none.

So what is their fucking excuse?

3. It's generally considered a good idea...
...for them to occasionally meet the people they're supposed to represent, which, unless you're DC delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton, entails leaving Washington and going home.

In the old days, Congress would be out of session in DC for six to nine months at a go.

9. You'll find the good ones...
...do a lot of town halls, etc. when they're in district. I've met, or at least seen, our district's rep during the summer most years, usually at the county Democratic committee cookout.

7. They know what people in Europe get for yearly vacation
and voted themselves the same, just like they did for health care.

They rely on the fact that 90% of the people in this country don't have a clue how they're being oppressed compared to the rest of the first world.

12. Tester grows grain
Perhaps he is not the only farmer?

And, part of the job requires coming home and hearing voters. But in reality, it is coming home and holding fundraisers.
