Internal RNC Polling Finds Majority Support Public Option
The Republican National Committee last month was handed a polling memo that laid out the issues and framing that would help the party gain the upper hand in the health care debate.

The study, put together by the Virginia-based On Message Inc., didn't sugarcoat the landscape. Listing the White House talking points -- that health care reform would be budget-neutral, that a public plan was necessary to stimulate competition, that consumers would be able to keep their coverage, and that Republicans are being obstructions -- the survey concluded: "If Obama Is Allowed To Sell This... He Wins."

1. And we all know that beating Obama is more important than health care reform
Gawd how I hate the GOP.

3. It's No Big Secret...
Polling has been showing this for a while and why the President is still on board. It's also the path of least resistance as single payer doesn't poll well (and why its off the table).

The GOOP talking points such as "you losing your insurance" and government mandated health care are being thrown around so much. Their game is to confuse public option with single payer and the corporate media is all too happy (with lots of advertising cash from insurance companies) to let those lies go out unquestioned.

This is a big reason why all those who want real reform to rally around the public option...create competition that will force insurance companies to drop their rates and stop them from playing god.

5. "But the polls.. our own internal polls..."
"Don't let the press get ahold of them."

"What if they find out anyway?"

"They won't."

"But what if they do?"

"Focus on destroying Obama's political trajectory."

"But he's with the majority of voters. They're the ones being polled."

"No matter. Our hate-talk hosts will subvert that relationship."

"But we had the hate-talk hosts in place in November and got our asses kicked anyway."

(silence...ruffling of papers...muffled grumbles and throat-clearing)
