"Racist Web Posts Traced to Homeland Security"
"After federal border agents detained several Mexican immigrants in western New York in June, an article about the incident in a local newspaper drew an onslaught of vitriolic postings on its Web site. Some were racist. Others attacked farmers in the region, an apple-growing area east of Rochester, accusing them of harboring illegal workers. Still others made personal attacks about the reporter who wrote the article.

"Most of the posts were made anonymously. But in reviewing the logs of its Internet server, the paper, The Wayne County Star in Wolcott, traced three of them to Internet protocol addresses at the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees border protection."

2. Hmm
Wonder if it were someone assigned to post or it was just random zealot employees. Still, posting racist stuff on the taxpayer dollar is a call for termination.

3. I thought so too, at first........
but then it occured to me that they might have been baiting the other posters in order to find the dangerous ones and bust them. Is this a possibility?

4. maybe a possibility--but back in the bush/cheney era
my guess is that it was just garbage/babble/puke coming from the keyboards of neocons.

6. Maybe
It will be interesting to see if the story gets some legs. Of course, DHS can get anything it wants off any host server (without a warrant), so if they were really focusing on dangerous racist groups or illegal immigrants, I don't see why it would need to post really.

5. Didn't Hitler also have a Dept of Homeland Security?
:sarcasm:

To me it still sounds like something straight out of Nazi Germany.

10. I agree with you completely. Let the FBI get back to work, and make sure
they've got some decent oversight.

"HOMELAND" is not an American word. We're a "We, the PEOPLE" kind of place. Or at least, that's what we should be...

8. The entire Homeland Security Agency needs to be thrown away.
How many different "spy"/ "police" agencies to we need to waste money on when Americans are dying from lack of healthcare.. exactly what the fuck are they protecting when the avg. American gets sick and can die because of the f'd up system?

9. Eight years
Eight years of Regent University educated US Attorneys, Pioneers and Rangers, nepotism, and Republicans paying favors with government jobs. The incompetence runs deep. It will take another 8 to weed out the dipshits that were installed in positions far above their ability in exchange for their loyalty. Remember, knowing how to do your job is antithetical to the Republican mindset; for them government IS the problem, so the only people they hire for government jobs are problems that fuck up everything else they try. For them, stupidity is the only thing that works by trickle down.
