Time to boycott my local theaters....
Edited on Fri Jul-24-09 11:19 PM by Matt_in_STL
I went to the movies tonight (saw "Orphan" - not a bad movie) and, as always, made sure that I arrived in plenty of time to see the previews. As we sat and waited through all of the commercials that are now tacked on to the beginning, we were hit with a commercial for this "film":

http://www.heritage.org/33-minutes/

Evidently, our local theater chain here in the St. Louis area (Wehrenberg) has decided to give this a single showing at all of their local theaters. Has anyone else seen this at your local theaters?

I can say that I will be sure to use a different movie chain in the future and will be sending a nice letter to this company.

On edit: For those who do not want to click the link (completely understandable) here are the highlights. The Heritage Foundation would like you to know that if North Korea decides tosend a missile our way, we have 33 minutes before it hits. The best way to deal with this, of course, is with a state-of-the-art SDI system. The preview was military/neo-con masturbation covering our ability to shoot missiles out of the sky. Also starring the Czechs and Margaret Thatcher, all saying how the world is counting on us.

If that doesn't sound exactly like the grandiose, unwieldy phrases the Soviets/Red Chinese used to plaster over everything.

3. Wingers really, really, really miss the Cold War
and Godless Commies and Hippies and all that happy shit.

That film should be titled 26 Minutes. That's the time you actually have when the Preznit is a fucktard whose brain gets vaporlocked for 7 minutes when the country is attacked.

The link is worth clicking on (in a what-are-they-up-to way...basically a trailer for an hour long fearfest designed to sell missile defense).

15. If North Korea decides to send a missile our way...
We have 33 minutes before it falls harmlessly into the sea of Japan.

Only in Kim-Jong Il's fantasies can he hit the broad side of a barn with anything. Ask the Heritage Foundation how Kim's non-existent satellite is doing. It's supposed to be broadcasting "revolutionary music" from space, but everyone knows it's collecting mud on the ocean floor.

21. This is why netflix is so nice -
you hit the "menu" button, you don't even see the previews.

Are you going to contact the theater chain management and tell them why you're no longer one of their patrons?

I think you must. This is about the worst I've heard.............................

24. We do Netflix a lot
But occasionally we like to get out and catch a new movie. It was unfortunate that we got hit with this ad as part of it.

I am most definitely contacting the management for the company and that specific theater.

27. U.S. Fortifies Hawaii to Meet Threat From Korea
* JUNE 19, 2009

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. is moving ground-to-air missile defenses to Hawaii as tensions escalate between Washington and Pyongyang over North Korea's recent moves to restart its nuclear-weapon program and resume test-firing long-range missiles.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates said on Thursday that the U.S. is concerned that Pyongyang might soon fire a missile toward Hawaii. Some senior U.S. officials expect a North Korean test by midsummer, even though most don't believe the missile would be capable of crossing the Pacific and reaching Hawaii.

Mr. Gates told reporters that the U.S. is positioning a sophisticated floating radar array in the ocean around Hawaii to track an incoming missile. The U.S. is also deploying missile-defense weapons to Hawaii that would theoretically be capable of shooting down a North Korean missile, should such an order be given, he said.

"We do have some concerns if they were to launch a missile...in the direction of Hawaii," Mr. Gates said. "We are in a good position, should it become necessary, to protect American territory."
