By 'race war', I'm thinking back to the Civil Rights movement era. There was alot of violence.

For my generation...we don't remember what that was like. My question is have we evolved to the point where that type of reaction isn't possible? Cops with firehoses, those types of thing. Have we moved beyond the violence?

i've been in law enforcement for 20 yrs. i'm privy to a lot of national intel about race related crimes, etc. as well as local stuff. i see exactly ZERO evidence of any pressure cooker right now. in fact, despite the economy, i'm not seeing any serious crime concerns. data matters more than feelings. is it a possibility? sure. anything's a possibility. is it even remotely likely? no

Some on the left and right accuse a large number (a minority of Hispanics to be sure, but millions nonetheless) of them of coming here to take "our" jobs and depress our wages. Demonization of this subgroup of Hispanics could, over time, morph into a more generalized mindset against all Hispanics. Working class Blacks and whites could be convinced that Hispanics were "unfair" competition for their jobs and lowered their wages. It's often easier (and more distracting) to blame problems on the "others" than to correct the system that is the root cause of the problems.

I don't think that a race war is at all likely, but in some circles it is more "acceptable" to be critical of Hispanics or Asians than it is of African Americans. In most places Asians aren't numerous enough to generate much of a reaction, but Hispanics are.
