Should Unrecs Have A Requirement to Post?
I like the unrec feature, it is in some ways similar to Reddit, however a healthcare thread that was getting unrecced needlessly caught my attention. None of the people disagreeing with it explained why, but they still put it in to <.

It seems to me that good manners would suggest that where someone from the DU "community" votes a post down they should explain why. A requirement to post would provide for that. (I know people could write they are in favour when unreccing - I just have more trust in the honesty of people).

3. I have nothing to get over.
It was not my post and it added to the healthcare debate (the Dennis Kucinich post). I just noticed all the unreccing going on (as well as various other threads).

Just putting an idea out there.

6. That would encourage "I agree n/t"

Generally, if people are asked to explain why they disagree they they do; the easiest answer for agrreing is saying so do I. I have seen posts top 100 votes with few replies.

12. I thought I had answered that,
although some may do so, I think it is less likely than the I agree posts.

7. The irony of lots (??) of unrecs
was not lost on me. I have however seen a lot of good posts go from 5 back to 4 votes in the short time I was on here tonight.

8. There's a problem with this.
Under your scenario, every unrec would include a mandatory kick (from the required post). Thus, a truly unpopular thread would, paradoxically, be kept alive longer.

16. I just tried to unrec it out of principle, I always unrec when people whine
about unreccing. Unfortunately, it's past the 24 hr mark. Damn it.

17. Who is whining?
I do not mind it - but then I like reddit. I was putting forward a view? Is that allowed?

PS - the 24hour mark has not passed so go unrec.

11. Wouldn't it just be ignored?
And disappear that way. I do accept timings of posts create different reactions, some good posts disappear while some naff one stay kicked and even recommended - it depends who is on at the time but if someone feels strongly enough to unrec should they debate it?

13. No, unrecommends should not have a requirement to post.
This idea was proposed about 50 times already, and it's been rejected by the admins, but why don't you email them and let them know that you still think it's a good idea?
