Environmental group claims the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile violated Hawaii's ban on vehicular ads

HONOLULU (AP) — Not everyone would love to be an Oscar Mayer Wienermobile these days. The Outdoor Circle, an environmental group dedicated to protecting Hawaii's scenery, claims the beloved hot dog-shaped vehicle is in violation of the Hawaii's ban on vehicular advertising.

The group says it hopes the Wienermobile's recent visit to Hawaii will be its last.

Kraft Foods spokeswoman Syd Lindner says to the company's knowledge, it did not violate any laws and secured all proper permits.

The beef comes less than a week after another a Wienermobile lost control and crashed into a Wisconsin house.

2. I am basically a vegetarian...
...but please don't ban the Wienermobile. Some things transcend local politics.

Is nothing sacred?

3. The OUTDOOR CIRCLE is the kind of outfit that makes environmental groups look bad.
The Weinermobile is a piece of schlocky Americana. It's goofy, and it's fun.

If you want to be technical, EVERY vehicle has advertising on it--those stupid metal tags that say VOLVO, or VW, or FORD or whatever, on the cars--they're "advertising." If you like this car, this is the brand.

I put these people in the "SOUR JERKS" category.

7. In the Pacific NW, they don't put an unremovable sticker on your car
they just stick to putting it on a plastic license plate frame, which can be removed easily by anybody able to figure out how to use a screwdriver.

14. For that kind of money, THEY can do it--not you. Especially when they
put it on after you asked them not to do that.

8. The Outdoor Circle is a power to be reckoned with in Hawaii
Originally a bunch of Tutus (Hawaiian word for grandmother) they have evolved into a group with serious power in Hawaii. They are the reason there are no billboards and even political advertising is small and restrained. Besides, who wins an argument with their grandmother?

10. I've never known a grandmother to be such a miserable fart, though.
Kids like hot dogs. They also like giant hot dogs that roll down the street.

Grandmothers usually like to indulge children, with goofy giant hot dogs, or what have you...

15. The Outdoor Circle doesn't give an inch, believing it could cascade
They are one of the reasons Hawaii does not look like Times Square or Tokyo. They have forced the issue and won on lesser items.

12. It was just a visit
The Weinermobile is nostalgic, kids like it so what's the harm. It doesn't even mean they have to like hot dogs.
