Palin's Wasilla picnic draws a crowd
WASILLA — Thousands showed up Friday for Gov. Sarah Palin’s annual picnic held in her hometown of Wasilla.

The governor — dressed in blue jeans and a red New England Patriots sweatshirt — was mobbed by well-wishers who offered up babies, books, calendars, skateboards and even their hands for autographs. Several longtime picnic-goers said this year’s picnic crowd dwarfed last year’s.

Others, such as Wes Hamrick, relayed his admiration for the governor and his dreams for the future in song.

“In 2012, I’ll give you a hint. Alaska’s pit bull will be our president,” he sang in a tune titled “North to the Future.”

At the end of the song, the Big Lake resident shouted: “Sarah Palin for president!”

A teenage boy replied as loudly, “Obama!”

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin served up hot dogs, signed autographs, handed out flags to family members of serving military members at the governors picnic in her home town of Wasilla Alaska on Friday July 24, 2009. Large crowds of fans followed her taking photos, shaking hands and getting things signed.

Message in the NE Patriots Sweatshirt - you betcha. We should start a pool on how long before she gets a show on Faux Snooze.

2. Is she getting ready to shake hands by wearing those
latex gloves so she doesn't get contaminated by the common folk?

Her star is fading fast - soon she'll only be welcomed in Wasilla.

Edited on Sat Jul-25-09 12:35 PM by Blue_In_AK
but she was getting ready to handle food. That's probably why the gloves. I'm sure there's a law somewhere that requires it.

I'm going to the Anchorage leg of the farewell tour today. It should be a bit more "interesting" than the one in Wasilla where all her fans live. She's not so well-loved here. I'll post pix.

3. I thought New England was made of people who aren't "real" Americans and elitist liberals
But apparently if she can get a $6 million a year contract with FOX, she'll abandon Alaska and become a New Englander in a ... well, in a New York minute.

13. The Alaskan taxpayers will foot the bill for all this grandstanding.

Failin won't officially leave office till Sunday.

“This is my last time to speak to the Valley community as your governor,” she said.

Another picnic will be held in Anchorage today and the third is scheduled for Sunday in Fairbanks, when Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell takes over as governor.

She's rubbing their noses in it right up to the very last minute.

23. Fla Dem, that was my thought as well. The big PATRIOT emblazened
on the chest is probably why she chose it.

She knocked the hell out of the northeast during the campaign and I won't soon forget it (I grew up in the northeast). She isn't fit to wear a Patriots jersey. x(

Now that's she's officially a mere community organizer/public citizen, can we forget about her now?

Doesn't Failin's daughter look a lot like Elizabeth Edwards might have looked at that age?
