Anyone see Anthony Woods on Bill Maher last night?
He's running in a special election to replace Ellen Tauscher in CA Congressional 10th district (East Bay), as she has moved to the State Department.

He's a young, Iraqi war veteran/hero who earned a Bronze Star.

He graduated from West Point and Harvard.

He's a strong progressive.

Learn more about him here:

He has the endorsements of Votevets.org, HRC and the Victory Fund.

2. He was impressive on Maher. And after reading the bio in
your link, I'm even more impressed. He's quite accomplished for a young man.

5. Maher seemed impressed too. Are you in his district? If so,

what do you think are his chances? IMO, he's exactly the type of young, accomplished progressive we need.

6. I'm not in his district
but there are a number of DU'ers who are and I'm hearing he has a real shot at it.

His main opponents are: Assemblywoman Joan Buchanan of Alamo, state Sen. Mark DeSaulnier of Concord and Lt. Governor John Garamendi of Walnut Grove.

Obviously Garamendi has name recognition. I haven't seen polling yet - if someone has, maybe they can post it.

7. He is also very smart and very cute. He will be a most attractive candidate, I think.

I use closed captioning, so I could not see "what" he was--i.e., the label the show had under him to explain what position he held was covered by my captions, so I was guessing him to be a writer or something, because he used language so beautifully. As a wrirer myself and a teacher of writing, I am frustrated by how inarticulate so many people are, so I always perk up my ears when someone speaks in what is well-formed enough to be considered "prose," and does so at the drop of a hat, without stops and starts. Whole sentences poured smoothly from his lips, without stuttering or filler (um, like, etc.), and he said intelligent things about complex topics without having to stop his sentences in mid-flow, which means he has been thinking deeeply about such things alread.

I was impressed enough by him that after the show I Googled him to find out more about him.

I love closed captioning. Without it I could never watch TV. But I wish there were a way to move the captions around at will so I could read the labels and scrolls at the bottom of my TV screen.

8. Only question that remains is this one - how
Will the DLC machine, so strong here in California under Di Fi, feel about having this progressive throwing his hat in the ring?
