2. Can we stop adding Gate at the end of scandals?
I mean I understand the internet doing it but aren't media outlets supposed to hire people who can creatively coin an original label for real world events? Or am I mixing my ideal world up with the real world again?

6. Yeah, you're mixing it up.
Even Keith Olbermann does it. And he's creative.

Let's face it, it's something we're stuck with. "-gate" is a suffix that means "scandal." Been true for ages now, whether it makes sense or not.

23. No. That's the last time national pubic officials were held accountable.
 The next time that happens, maybe a new term will be born.

30. It's called Grammaticalization. "-gate" has become English's "scandal" suffix.
Many languages of indigenous peoples have affixes specialized things dealing with things that are important in those societies, so why can't a language spoken in a modern Western society have an affix for something like scandals? :dunce:

And they're not done with this yet. *sigh*

8. Coming soon - 'Journogate'
In which the scandal of hundreds of trained journalists who are still unable to write about any subject for more than 3 days without tacking '-gate' onto the end of a word to describe it, 35 years after the original, is exposed to an outraged world.

CNN is probably petting itself on the back for their own cleverness.

Part of being stupid is being totally unaware of how stupid one is.

I thought of this the other day. A guy named Gates involved in a media controversy.

If you think this has gone away, I think otherwise. Obama is coming to VA to campaign for Deeds. Not great timing. I'm sure that the Repubs will be using this, using law enforcement people in their ads.

and there will never be a 'gate' again.

The suffix 'palooza', however, will not be affected

29. Until they get the final autopsy report on Michael Jackson, they don't have anything to talk about.
So GatesGatesGates will have to fill air time till then.

Oh, wait. I forgot. Octomom signed a TV deal for her kids.

They want to talk about ANYTHING other than explaining health care reform to the American people.
