What happened to The History Channel?
I've been watching it for the last 3 hours. It is nothing but doomsday tales, tales of sexual maturation in the 60s and alien intervention on earth.

It's really weird and mostly BS.

4. Beats being the Nazi channel
I swear, sometimes they seem so disappointed that WWII didn't work out so well for the corporatists.

6. It sucks on the weekend, that's for sure
That's when they start airing all the biblical and Nostradumbass stuff as though it were all fact.

It's actually been good over the last week, lots of geology programs.

11. Just like everyother niche channel that used to be niche
Now they'll all mainstream general entertainment channels with a theme. If you want real niche programing, you have to get digital cable and with that you'll have to pay more and subsidize more channels you will have zero interest of watching.

14. And even digital cable has some sucky channels now
BBC America is garbage except for Torchwood and Doctor Who.

Ovation is gone.

National Geographic is all Dog Whisperer.

Netflix is my friend.

10. The History and Discovery channels really make me appreciate PBS.
The PBS shows use video to enhance learning and pack a lot of visual and audio information into their presentations. The for-profit shows tend to have a lot of phony what-if speculation before every commercial to make sure you're hooked.

19. Kinda like CNN
It was OK when Ted Turner owned it, but definitely took a hard right turn when the AOL/TimeWarner regime moved in.

16. It's Saturday night and no one's watching TV so...
every channel puts the cheap crap on for us geeks and nerds chained to our basement TVs because we have no other place to go.

During the week there's a few interesting shows here and there, but most cable channels are getting just too damned specific trying to get some kind of ratings. I used to like stuff like Wild West Tech, but they haven't ordered any new shows.

(So far, wrestling and SpongeBob beat the crap out of all the other cable shows.)

21. It's the Armageddon channel now
My mom watches it nonstop and it is nothing but Ghosts, UFOs, end of the world, biblical prophicy, and about 5% real history. All the old people who remember WWII have died and now they are catering to the early baby boomers with their own unique interests and fears. I did find it interesting that they showed a documentary on the battle of Waterloo at about the same time that the Obama's healthcare Waterloo story was making the rounds.

22. The Science Channel is about nothing but bridges and construction
How they make ping pong balls or jelly beans is what many of its shows have as subject matter. It almost never has true science but mostly it's about engineering, if even that. And I agree that the History channel has become pretty weird lately.
