I spent 12 hours yesterday and will most of today making mortgage apple cakes.
Angela Logan — she of the apple cake known ’round the world — will be able to make her mortgage payment.

The Record reported last Friday how the Teaneck actress and divorced mother of three resorted to a bake sale to save her home from foreclosure. Her goal was to sell 100 homemade “mortgage apple cakes” at $40 each.

Angela Logan had started out baking the "mortgage apple cake" in her kitchen. As of Tuesday, Logan had received more than 500 orders, including one from Hong Kong. And she no longer is baking in her home.

After reading about Logan’s financial bind, the Hilton Hotel in Hasbrouck Heights invited her to bake in a corner of its kitchen. Logan spent 12 hours there Saturday, turning out more than 20 cakes using a commercial mixer and convection oven. The hotel is letting Logan use the kitchen at least through this weekend, when the first of three $2,559.94 payments to Bank of America — required as part of the modification of her mortgage — is due.

I read about Angela, and then got thinking. 100 cakes, and unlikely she could do it by herself. I spent 12 hours with Angela in the basement of the Hilton Hotel's kitchen and returning today for more making and baking. We made between 30 and 35 cakes yesterday by my count.

3. What a nice story
And cheers for the Teaneck officials who sounded like that wanted to help her out as well. And FIE on the people who complained about her cooking in her home. And hats off to the Hilton Hotel for stepping in.

Thanks for helping her out. Hats off to you as well!! :patriot:

4. This was upsetting
Fisher said township officials received more than 15 calls and e-mails from people upset that Logan was baking and selling cakes from her home.

Some people are scum.

6. Yes and no.
Yes, they are scum, no debate.

No, because they are a blessing for having steered Angela to a kitchen large enough to get the orders out. One hundred plus cakes in an oven that holds 3-4 pans at a time, and they're two-layed cakes, uh uh. She needs all the space and ovens Hilton has given her, trust me on that point.

9. her web site
Thank you for what you did, no-hypocrisy. Twelve hours is a long time and I'm sure you must have been exhausted afterward.

I originally posted this story at DU and searched high and low for Angela's website so I could order a cake. None of the newspaper stories carried it and I was unsuccessful in finding it at that time. Maybe things have changed, however.

Please tell Angela that I'm a webmaster and if she needs some help with search engine optimization, I'd be happy to do it gratis. Better yet, if she needs any other help with it, I'm teaching a web design class of 7 very smart guys. Maybe we can help her out with a class project.

Cher

Mortgage Cake Baker Partners with Online Cake Seller
July 24th, 2009

Angela Logan and her “mortgage apple cake” have hit the big time.

The Teaneck actress, who two weeks ago began baking apples cakes for friends in an effort to stave off foreclosure — and then was overwhelmed with orders for the $40 confection after a Record article ignited a media storm — is now partnering with an online seller of special-occasion cakes.

Logan has signed a contract with BakeMeAWish.com that will allow her to use the company’s baking plant on Long Island to fill her backlog of hundreds of cake orders. BakeMeAWish employees will prepare the cakes under Logan’s direct supervision, and the privately held company will handle shipment, said BakeMeAWish founder and President Josh Kaye.

Logan, who was planning to visit a FedEx office Thursday to send off a crucial $2,559.94 check to her lender, currently is baking at the Hasbrouck Heights Hilton hotel, which offered a corner of its kitchen last weekend. The apple cake operation will move to Long Island as early as next week.

After Logan fills her pending cake orders, which are coming in from around the world, she will continue a business relationship with BakeMeAWish, said Kaye, who founded the company in 2004.

Kaye said mortgage apple cake eventually will become part of the company’s product line — the Web site was taking orders for it Thursday — and that proceeds from its sale will help other homeowners in financial distress.
