If everyone ends up being required to purchase health insurance, will the gov't require us to all |
|

2. There will be incentives |
|
To get people like you to the doctor before catastrophe strikes. Doctors won't be paid by giving you a $25,000 stent, they'll be paid a set rate to keep you from having to have one. That's HEALTH care.

17. I'd settle for fewer disincentives. |
|
If preventative care were free, many more people would get regular check-ups.

9. I'm sure not. I happen to think this is a good idea. That's the way |

Medicare works. It's mandatory that you sign up for Medicare and with full participation, the premiums can stay reasonable. It would work even better with the general public. If there was 100% participation, there wouldn't be overuse of ER's at an extremely high cost, and when you incorporate the healthier young people, spreading the total costs across a large pool of people would reduce all HC premiums.
I realize everyone wants all the details they can get right now, but there are still so many things that can't yet be answered, we don't know how much the premiums might be, what will be covered, are there copays and if so how much...... It's not that the Prez or Congress doesn't want to answer thosee questions, but that without details that haven't yet been decided, those answers just aren't available.

10. If you have to ask how much it costs.. |
|
You won't be able to afford it..
I fully expect mandated health insurance to be a cash cow of Brobdingnagian proportions for the insurance industry.
An aside: I was astounded that Firefox's spell check recognized Brobdingnagian..

11. I disagree with you. People want to know the cost so they can do |
|
a comparrison. Even if an employer pays for his employees HC now, they want to know if this plan is going to save money. Is it going to stop the 20%, 30%, or higher increases in premiums every year. I suspect many people who don't have ins. now would buy it IF...at least for basic care...fairly inexpensive.
We're retired now and on medicare, but when I reviewed supplemental plans, the one thing I was interested in was the cap on annual out of pocket expenses. I too used to think we had GREAT HC, but we never had to use it. Then I broke my ankle and found out just what that 80%/20% hospital coverage meant!!!! I found out why many people WITH ins. end up in bankruptcy court!!!!

14. It's a bad idea, top to bottom. |
|
Forcing people to buy insurance is no more the solution to a failed health care system than forcing people to buy houses is the solution to homelessness.
